So I'm thinking about picking up a Classic Controller later today. I've been using the Wii Remote for NES games and the GameCube controllers for everything else with little problem (except that jumping and shooting is a little awkward in Contra III), but I've heard that some SNES, Genesis, and N64 games control terribly with the GCN controllers. The only non-NES titles I've downloaded so far are Mario Kart 64 (which is perfectly fine using GCN controllers) and Contra III (which suffers from the aforementioned jumping issue). Is the Classic Controller worth the twenty dollars?

Well, some games may suck wth a GC controller, But I don't why to buy one.

Only time I had planned to buy one if SSBB was only gonna use it, But we know what it uses now. So I would'nt Jeff. Save the money for something else.

Yes, if you're planning on getting games like Mario or Donkey Kong that are for SNES.

The GCN controller seems OK for the two N64 games I downloaded (SM64 and OoT), but playing them with the Classic Controller is cool too.

I also just find it interesting to play all the old games on VC with wireless controllers, or controllers connected to wireless controllers. There's just a certain something about that.

You would probably need the Classic Controller for SNES games, as games like SMW and DKC 1 and 2 have fiddly control on a GameCube controller. For N64 games, I don't think there are really any problems with the GCN controller in any of the games I have tried. For Genesis/Mega Drive the Classic Controller isn't necessary, as the Wii Remote can be used with almost all games released for that console.

Probably all of them, though it might be difficult with certain games due to button layouts.

I recomend it over the GC Controller, the Classic layout of the ABXY is nicer then the GC one.

I had not even thought of getting one until I bought SMW.

Wow, that game is unplayable without one. So I'll be getting one once I get some money together.

^Yeah, you really don't think about the controls when you download SMW.
I could imagine myself playing SMW with the GC controller just for a fun challenge.

If you're getting SNES/Genesis games, yes.

If not, no.

Depends if you want to play some SNES games or not.

I mean, if you own all the decent SNES games on the VC already there's not much point in it if you've got a GameCube controller. SNES and N64 games are the only thing the Wii remote can't handle (Other than 6-button MegaDrive games, but I don't think any of those have been released yet), and the GameCube handles a large portion of the SNES lineup, N64 lineup and probably 6-button MegaDrive games.

For the record I've had no troubles with LTTP on the GameCube's controller, so my guess the only thing that's really effected are those games that require you to hold a button to run (Mario, DKC etc.) Haven't got enough SNES games or a classic controller myself to confirm it though.

You could take my route, which is *****ing to Nintendo to include a controller layout function for VC titles. Even with the Classic Controller I'd like to have that option.

Too bad they don't care. sad.gif

Well, I like it, but don't use it for NES games because the layout is kinda off, particularly for Mario.

It takes a bit of getting used to for N64 games, too, but you can just use your GameCube controller for them.

It's perfect for SNES and MegaDrive games, though.

I just bought one from ebay for 6 bucks, though it was 9 bucks shipping. So it's 15 bucks, but it's better than buying it for $20 + at a store

I mainly want it for snes games though I haven't bought that many yet. I will probrably buy super mario world and others once I get it in the mail
