NOTE:
REPLIES count more than votes, so when the majority of replies wants option x, but the majority of poll votes wants y, we will make x (because replies count more).
That means you should not only vote, but also REPLY and say why you prefer the option you have voted for!

These are the two models that I want you to vote for.
When you read through these, keep in mind that you can go back and forth between the worlds at any time (probably not in SGG's model at the points where the bros. are split but usually, you can), assuming you have unlocked the paths to them. This would work similar to Super Mario World.

The World Map would look similar to kirbyhi5's map (he'd obviously have to redraw it), with each world being marked on it. You can then select the worlds and will be lead to an SMW-style worldmap which shows the selected world in more detail.

Also, both of those models include some of the following Bonus Worlds, which are in the game, but not really part of the storyline:
Trial Ruins, Star Road, Sky Heaven

And probably the extra world which would be unlocked after having found certain artifacts, which could be SGG's City of Gold.

^ All of this here applies to BOTH models.

v here are the differences between the models, which you will vote for:

QUOTE (Model 1 (by Guinea))

World 1: Toad Town
The Mario Bros. start in this world, trying to visit the princess for some reason
MiniBoss: Syrup
Leads to World 2, 3 and 5

World 2: Deserts with Pyramids
The Wario Bros. start in this world, looking for an artifact.
MiniBoss: Bowser
Leads to World 1, 3 and 5

After the first (or second) world has been played, the brothers meet at this point

World 3: Ice World
Leads to World 4

World 4: Ghost World
Ghost World leads to a dead end, but there is something to be found in Ghost World which enables proceeding later in the game.

World 5: Jungle
This World is accessible right from the start (after beating the first (second) World)
Leads to World 6

World 6: Ocean World
This World includes islands, underwater areas and other stuff that can be found in the ocean.
Leads to World 7

World 7: Yoshi's Island, Spoiled by Industry
Leads to World 8 (using a giant vine, sky elevator or some other cool thing)

World 8: Sky World
The Midas Machine is located here.
After beating this world, you've technically won the game.

QUOTE (Model 2 (by Shyguy Grey))

World 1- Toad Town/ Outskirts of town
In this model, you apparantly start with all four Bros. at the start.
Leads to World 2.

World 2- Desert
Leads to World 3.

World 3- Ocean/ Koopa Pirate Fleet
Mario and Wario are split from Luigi and Waluigi.
Leads to World 4 (World 5)

World 4-Yoshi's island
The two teams still are still split. M&W go to the Jungle, while L&WL go to the swamps
The last boss reunites the teams
Leads to World 5

World 5- Sky World/ ice
Firstl level or two is frozen mountain tops, then clouds, and then Bowsers Doom ships.
Leads to World 6

World 6-Boos Woods
After the sky boss, the bros and knocked out of the sky and into the woods.
Starts in the woods, the graveyard/cavern, basement, floor 1, floor 2, then ends in the attic.
Leads to World 7

World 7- Miners Hills
Mine carts, explosives, land slides, caves, and lava all await the heros in this seldom travelled danger zone.
Leads to World 8

World 8- Bowser on the high seas
Final World.

For more detailed information about those worlds please check out the other topic. The most important stuff is said though.

I like the model 2 a bit more, since there's one minor problem in the model 1:

World 2 = Desert --> World 3 = Ice World ? Shouldn't there be something in between?

I also like how model 2 has doomship in world 5, which crash lands to world 6.

I like model 1 more. In my opinion, M&W and L&WL is a thing that I don't even expect to happen.

I vote model 1.
There could be a space between the ice & desert worlds, like a Toad village or something.

I drew this to make more clear what my model is:

As you can see, the ice world, desert, jungle and mushroom kingdom are the four paths of a crossing. They're not really next to each other.
And to make sure that the player has to visit each world, we hide artifacts in worlds 1, 2, 4 and 6 which are required to open the path to world 8.

Eh, I don't know, I'd have to say model 1. I don't like the idea of doomships or pirate fleets or anything incredibly "epic" like that. Model 1 is simple and complicated at the same time, which I like.

You know a community fangame project should showcase the creativity and originality of MFGG's community, but a lot of those level descriptions just scream "SMB3".

I prefer the first set, however I think you'd be best off making a hybrid of the two. Replace 1's Ocean level with 2's Ocean/Pirate level etc.

King Midas existed in Greek mythology, so if you're making that reference it wouldn't make a lot of sense to have it in the middle of a sea or high up in the sky. You have an ancient Greek-like palace made of gold or something.

tbh though you should be able to come up with something a bit more original than a generic "DESERT" or a generic "OCEAN" anyway.

! How come my choice wasn't inputed?

Personally, I wanted mine because it made good sense, but witht the models given, I'd have to go for 2, and it would be better if my Bowser's Galaxy idea was to replace the Bowser on the High Seas. I mean, really, it gives Bowser use of the Midas Machine all over the planet!

But yeah, 2.

Super Mario Bros. 2 had this, somewhat.

Black Squirrel: when I say "desert" of course I don't mean a generic desert, but an original desert. If you have good ideas for original deserts, feel free to draw some original concept art and post it in the Concept Art topic. (Same is for all other worlds)

Also, we can still replace some of the very generic worlds with something different as long as it matches the setting. Until this is decided though, we won't be able to draw the world map and furthermore not be able to draw tilesets for said worlds.

Black Boo: your idea isn't in the poll because it was identical with SGG's except for the Bowser Galaxy world.

Another thing: It seems the votes and replies are fairly equal on both, so I guess we'll do a hybrid in the end.
This would mean we'll discuss which elements of both we would combine to the final product.

I'm going to agree with black squirrel here. The most generic thing in my opinion however is the 8 worlds. I don't know if it is too late to be changed since I haven't really followed this, but a project that is supposed to involve an entire community can have more than 8 worlds.

The 8 worlds are by accident.
Also, there are going to be extra worlds, which makes it over 10 worlds in total.
I hope that's enough.

Also, the worlds won't be "four levels per world", but instead they will be massive and different in themselves.
e.g. the Mushroom Kingdom World in my model would have some levels sewer themed, some levels grassland themed, some levels in a forest, some levels in the town etc.

And the seperated teams, I like that as well.

Okay, that sounds better than what I was expecting.

Also regarding the Desert to Ice level jump, you can throw that mine level from model 2 between them. It will give the map a bit more symmetry too seeing as you have a path branch off with only two worlds and then a path branching off that has double that.

What do you guys think about throwing SGG's "Mine World" to the crossroads in Model 1, between worlds 1, 2, 3 and 5, and you would have to play the mine world which could result in four different paths.

The Mine could however also be located on Yoshi's Island or somewhere else, probably in that World 2.

I added the doomships and pirate ships parts in mine to remind the player that Bowser (who uses doomships) and Syrup (who uses pirate ships) are still acting out they're plans.

I do think we could combine them though, but with mine, I was trying to make them link up in a way we could show with small cutscenes or something. And I thought that the Bros. being force to work with they're rivals would be a cool touch.

But as a way to combine them,

Toad Town, thats bsic anyways.

Desert- Use Guinea's idea

(not really sure how to lead straight into an ice world, so I'd go to the beach/ocean split up thing)

But yeah, I think it could work.

So I guess it's decided that we combine the two world map layouts.
I'll have a chat with SGG where we will decide what to do.

We might end up doing another one of those amazing IRC Conferences where everyone can take part and say his thoughts.
