| Congrats to Fuzzy who came in second, and the other participants. Now, shall we move on to the next challange? This time, it will be a competition on the basis of quality over quantity! Confused? I'll explain. This is going to be a competition of making pixel art, and that means pixel art only. No animations. Just make sure to make it with your best effort! Restrictions/Requirements - Must be only mario related - 200 x 200 is the minimal size requirement. No exceptions. - Your work must have a setting and a background and whatnot. Don't just make a big sprite of a mario character. That means transparency is not allowed. :Y - There's no color restriction, but please be reasonable with the number of shades/colors you use. Entries are due on January 30th. That's all I got for you guys. Good Luck. |

Because people are totally more likely to use Flagpole Luigi that doesn't match any other style. Large pixel art has its uses in fangames. |

I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous IMO. These are Sprite Competitions, and conceptually "sprites" and "animation" are extremely interrelated. Not all sprites animate, but a lot of them do, and aside from size it's this that is one of the most obvious things that distinguishes sprites as a class from other kinds of digital drawings. Without animation and with a "pixel art only" limitation, there are only a few general kinds of things left that could be used in a game (e.g., title screens and maybe backdrops), and I doubt either of those were intended for this comp. Plus, I thought there was a rule that Sprite Comps were not supposed to be for the kinds of pixel art that didn't fall into the category of sprites - and possibly a rule that animations were supposed to exist in all comps? (To be fair, there's also a rule, as I recall, that the comp creator has the primary say about themes as opposed to the strictly-defined rules, but to make a theme that completely contradicts one or more of the rules is kind of a different matter.) It's clearly too late to change this competition now, but still... seriously. I do not think the competition should have been made this way to begin with. |

| Nice entries so far, I just hope that there are more to choose from at voting time, though it is a bit much to ask these requirements of everyone. And honestly, I'm surprised this didn't start a pixel art vs. sprite argument, but I hope you don't make the mistake of making pixel art compos common. Still pixel art was banned in the first place because the 200 x 200 (or even larger) still pixel art entries (that would not be used in a game for anything other than perhaps a title screen) stole wins away from others who followed the competition's goals: to create sprites. |

Entering cause theres not enough participation and PA's are cooler then sprites. Now to answer some questions; No I most likely won't finish this in time, yes I'm using fuzzy/swany's colors and he's ok with it, and yes that is a default circle in mspaint and I'm keeping it because I'm a lazy ****.EDIT: also white space is cool. |

| Honestly, I agree with many of the people here in that PA competitions should not be common, but I would not go so far as to say they should be completely eliminated. I enjoyed making my entry here more than every other competition I tried to enter (Other than #245 - Buzzy Beetles, perhaps). So I have no problem with a PA compo once in a blue moon... |

Well the problem isn't with the pixel art itself, but this is a sprite competition. Other communities always have pixel art and sprite competitions separate from each other. Honestly it'd be like allowing animations in a drawing competition. Sure, drawing could eventually lead some people down the path to animation, but it's not for everyone. And if you were to vote in such a competition would you vote for a high quality drawing or a lengthy, high quality animation? This obviously won't be a problem with this competition since all entries will be pixel art. However, this competition is mislabeled. I just think it would be a mistake to make this a common occurence, and I am sorry to interrupt the topic further. By the way, ndsfreak, can't wait to see how that translates to full size. |

There's not really a fine enough distinction between sprite and pixelart, they're both made in the same format and with the same methods, for example, would you claim this to be a piece of pixelart or a sprite? The difference between sprite and pixelart is not the same as the difference between drawings and animations, if it was then sprite competitions shouldnt allow animations as sprites are, essentially, drawings, no matter what size they are. |

| Pixel art generally is described to be larger in size and greater in detail and is not usually used for gaming purposes nor is it usually animated. That is the difference between a sprite and a work of pixel art. If you had your mind set, sure you could animate a huge 200 x 200 sprite for a game, but that would take an impractical amount of time and effort. |

This is really lazy, man It looks like you just drew really sloppily and colored it in with a few shades, not even caring what kind of look you gave it; things are out of proportion and nothing stands out in the piece I can't tell what's even going on in the scene; everything's flat and shaded so sloppily D: Things are drawn in a really odd perspective and you didn't take the time to clean ANY of the lines up that you messily drew I dunno, I wouldn't submit a quarter-done entry, but whatever. What's actually refined is okay, but I think you could have worked a lot harder on it. |

First of all Shawn did not have a serious entry it was a joke, he was going to do a serious entry with that same concept at one point I think. But honestly EVERYTHING IN THIS IS **** PRACTICALLY! Shymouse's isn't bad, the line art is nice it could have been shaded much better though, Fuzzy's entry also. Mine was a piece of **** and was only entered because I was *****ed at until I did, really I should've been banned for posting such a piece of ****. END OF ****ING DISCUSSION! STOP *****ING AT SHAWN. EDIT: Shawn beat me to it but what ever, I'm leaving this, also Jazz's wasn't bad. |

That drawing comp badge to the left of this post was won when there were only 5 entries, and nobody complained. I'll be damned if I'll be letting people shoot down the only entries here because they're not "good enough". If there's a "standard" perhaps you should have set it by posting something of your own rather than out-right critisizing others because they're "not as good as the standard that wasn't set". and to be honest the only one that really needs to be shot down is Fawful's because somewhere along the lines it was distorted to the extent that it stopped being pixel art. But even then it's probably not entirely his fault. |

No...it is my fault because to be honest I didn't really try. I just posted something here for the heck of it and maybe next compo I'll actually work on something good. I had a great and different idea but was too lazy to make it happen so I did this instead. |
