First off, congrats to Des, ClownMan and the others for their great entries in the other competition. :D


For this competition, the idea is to create smaller enemy versions/minions of existing bosses. Like how Petey Piranha is a bossified Piranha Plant and how Lord Crump commands the X-Nauts, but the other way around. The catch is, you can't sprite an enemy that already exists. Here are the rules and restrictions:
  • You will be spriting an enemy that is either a smaller version of a boss or a closely related minion of one .
  • The enemy can not already be from a game.
  • You cannot sprite smaller versions of bosses that are modified enemies to begin with. No Mini-Peteys or the like.
  • I want to see a full sprite sheet in your entry. Animations are fine, as long as you provide a sheet to go with it.
  • These are normal enemies, so I can't imagine a need for the sprite to exceed 64x64 pixels.
  • No more than 15 colors per sprite, not including transparency.
  • The sheet should have all the necessary poses to be usable in a
    mario fangame. Styles that primarily use static poses don't count.
  • You are allowed to include a sprite of the original boss in your sheet for reference if you wish. The boss's sprite doesn't need to follow the size or palette limits, but don't go crazy with the colors.
  • Sorry, the bosses from Super Smash Bros. Brawl do not count, either, as they are not true Mario characters.
  • Mini-bosses do count since the category is rather fuzzy as long as the boss isn't just "a really strong normal enemy".

Dang, was hoping for another single enemy comp. These competitions where people can do basically anything makes it hard to compare sprites.

Entering, now that I have 5 top five badges I need to try to get silvers.

Also @ SGG: he means like petey had his own minions, but werent mini versions of him, can we do the same for our chosen boss.

@Gameboy: By closely related, I meant minions that are mini/weaker versions of the boss, like the examples I gave. Other enemies might be the boss's minions, but they're not really related except by affiliation. If I allowed non-related minions... well, that would open up for almost every enemy in all the games, wouldn't it? :P

Done in QoaM style (just a game I'm making) It's cortez's minions, im going to do one for each of his weapons.
Plus, I'm killing two birds with one stone because i can use these in my game aswell.

Actually, he has lots of possibilities.

A minion doesn't always have to literaly be smaller. Think about it, Popples "rookie" was bowser who was huge compaired to him, and many main badguys have those huge brainless muscle minions.

True, and in a sense the tubba bubba heart used the tubba bubba body as a minion, though he controled it.

Pear, can I include a the boss I'm basing my minions off of? It would break the size limit, and I would be making it, to be used a comparison.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that. Including a sprite (even just one) of the original boss is perfectly acceptible, and the main boss doesn't have to follow the size/color restrictions (though you still shouldn't go overboard with the boss's palette).

Considering the main site doesn't allow sprites of enemies exclusive to Brawl, I'm going to say no, they don't count either. As interesting as they are, they're not true Mario characters. Sorry. :(

(Yes, Petey Piranha is Mario boss, but he doesn't count anyway.)

I'd say his own. They look alike but they've never shown any connection as far as I'm aware.

Machine Mades are just mass produced copies of the bosses. Pip's entry is fine.


Edit: Also, Mini-bosses do count within reason since the category can get rather fuzzy. You can't choose something like "a very strong enemy".

THe big head thing was going to be a large muscle bound, braindead ding nut, but I haven't finished/might not.

The smaller one is the goomba of the group, but you have to be careful, jumping on his pointy head might not be a good idea.

And you can make as many minions of different bosses as you want, they all count, so long as they all meet the rules/requirements.

I was gunna make robirdo minions, little robotic birdo-like turrets that would move up and down or back and forth on chains while shooting eggs but I dunno my hearts not into spriting right no although looking and mr. ink's sheets makes me want to sprite.

I like it and all, but it seems a bit odd since CnC becomes that size anyways. Maybe make it a slightly different color or something to make it look more like a seperate person.

Shadow Princess

Note: Put the "statue" and "turning from/to stone" sprites upon the "tree pedestal", or whatever it's called.
After it has transformed from stone to normal, it walks around. However, when you look at it, it turns back into a stone, similar to how boos work. You can only kill them when looking away from it, and making a projectile bounce against a wall, and then hit the Shadow princess. For dying animation, use the "explosion" (which destroys the body), and make the head fall down to the ground.
