If you're an old-timer, you might or might not remember me - I registered an account near the end of the IPB era, and I wasn't too active until the phpBB forums launched. Later I achieved world domination, or became an MFGG admin - whichever comes last. But I digress.

I finally got the IPB archive working again a little over a year ago. We hope that this archive serves as a celebration of a special time in MFGG's history and the online world in general - a time when small, independent forums could quickly grow to massive sizes without the backing of large sites with deep pockets, without any concerted effort to promote the forums outside of MFGG. This forum was born before Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube even existed, when dial-up was still the most common means of connecting to the Internet. Many online communities of that era have succumbed to "digital decay" - they closed down long ago, and it may be impossible to retrieve information from them. In contrast, this forum is nearly intact - other than PPP posts that got pruned many moons ago, all content is still here.

Lots of old-time MFGGers have fond memories of this place. However, we don't want the existence of this archive to hurt or embarrass anyone, so if there's something very personal or sensitive that you don't want to be in the public eye, please contact a current admin.

There's a few things to keep in mind while browsing this archive.

First of all, you'll notice that many images hosted on external sites are now broken. This is often because some of the leading image-hosting sites of the previous decade, such as Photobucket and Imageshack, imposed draconian restrictions on unpaid accounts. Many hotlinked images were permanently deleted, although some might be visible if you use a special browser plugin to bypass the paywalls that some of these sites have imposed on free accounts.

Similarly, many third-party download links don't work anymore. Use caution when clicking on any links that take you outside of MFGG - a domain that existed 15 years ago might not lead to the same site anymore.

We can't promise that we'll keep this archive up for all time. We've been careful to make multiple offsite backups of the files and database, but because IPB 1.3 is such old software, there may come a point when we're unable to continue hosting it. Getting it to work with the server's current version of PHP required making a lot of tweaks, and future updates to PHP or browser technology could break core IPB features. So if there's anything you want preserved for posterity, I strongly advise that you make an offsite copy of it - whether it's a forum topic, an image, a game, or whatnot.

I have overheard some users were facing issues attempting to login into this forum. Since I am a Site Developer now, I noticed the config files were redirecting to HTTP instead of HTTPS. I got that mended right away and I was able to log into the forum software.

Yes. I abused my power yet again. Bwahahahaha!
