The guys at Orange lounge radio have made a few interesting discoveries whilst investigating the potential launch date of Wii. On their latest podcast, presenter Rob Roberts speaks to a regular guest who works in the distribution industry. He claims that they've had confirmation of launch dates for a number of Wii titles.

According to the show, two Wii titles have an October 18th launch date. This date coincides with the anniversary of the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the U.S, so could be the date Nintendo have in mind.

The launch date however does not tie up with the discovery that Kotaku made at E3. They discovered a Madden 2007 place mat with a launch date of August 30th.

Roberts may have hit the nail on the head when he suggested that there may be a late summer launch date, followed by the launch of the NES retro download service on October 18th. Speculate away!

Source

I'm predicting a launch in Japan around September, and America in October or November. The rest of the world will surely follow shortlhy behind.

Should be a global thing. It's completely biased towards other markets otherwise, especially since they're making such a fuss about playing together throughout the world.

It's not biased. The European market is an incremental market in the video game industry. Making it a waste of resources, and unprofitable for Nintendo to release several units worldwide, just because you want them to.

You should be lucky you're getting it all. Until it does arrive in England, you can play with your teaset and eat crumpets - two things very vital to the European market.

How dare you! The teaset and crumpets fade into significance next to the Wii.

As for a global release, it would be nice, but unlikely. However, I fail to see why it is America that gets it first....

(Yeah, I know I'm going to get yelled at for this. But I really don't want to have to wait a month or two, whilst Americans, Japanese and Import-gits yell how great it is.)

America gets it first, because it's the most popular and important video game market next to Japan.

Iwata promises no less than a four month difference between the Wii's launch internationally.

The thing is, 4 months is a long time to wait for a next-gen console, when the rest of the world already has it.

Europe is slightly bigger than Japan.

Games do sell more in Europe over the long run most likely because it is much bigger than Japan. However, Japan's entertainment market share is much bigger than either the US or Europe.
