...You mean the core game itself ISN'T replay value?

Most of the time, once you beat it, it's over. Some core games have an ungodly amount of replay value to them, but others just aren't fun enough to play through multiple times.

You could say that some games do get boring after a while without something to achieve though.

I've beaten FE7 like 20 times

FE games have tons of replay value. You can use a completely different (minus Lords...) character set each time you play...

I can't say the new games being short is a trend. I've played old games that are pretty short too. Mega Man 3 is an example.

And that happens to be the biggest of the MM games if I recall.

I concider 4-6 to be the longest concidering there are 2 fortresses after beating 8 robot masters. And they are PRETTY long if you ask me :P Each having 3-5 stages (thank god some of them are really short though)

Mega Man 1 is probably the shortest. 6 robot masters and 4 fortress stages (but as 1 fortress), but that game was fustrating as hell, I hate it.

Oh and SMB1/3 doesn't even take an hour to complete if you just skip worlds :P

Heh, those games were meant to be played in one sitting.

They didn't have any extras (unless you count SMB3's p-wings for beating the game) but they were fun as hell to play, and are considered some of the greatest games of all time.

Yet if games like those came out today, they'd be bashed for "being too short." Gamers just expect WAY too much these days. nope.gif You all expect one game to become a whole lifestyle, not something fun to enjoy during your free time.

i say its good that they focus on grafix so its not so easy to regurgitate games out like the atari2600 and somewhat of a storyline so the game dosent compile the intire structure of video games today ... im looking at you E.T. ... megaman games are getting better but more confuseing like in battle network 5 doubble team DS it was a re make so what most megaman games are now ITS A TREND!!! but the program advancers were so freaking confuseing they had to have a loop hole in it somewhere (no bug chip) so its really all a strange ballance between graphix gameplay story and LACK of story!

I just can't think of very many games where I've replayed the game after getting 100%: the SMB3, Mario World, Doom 3, Super Metroid, Jet Set Radio Future, Illusion of Gaia...
If you noticed, almost all those are SNES/NES games. Even if the old Mario games were short, they were incredibly fun to play. Newer games, even if they are as short, just lack the substance and feeling.

That's actually a pretty recent game (98/99).

I think New Super Mario Bros. captured the substance and feeling pretty well. There are other recent games that felt good to replay, namely Tales of Symphonia, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine, Super Princess Peach, and the Wind Waker to name a few. But I guess everyone is entitled to their oppinions. ^^;

98/99 they years go a bit slower for me i fry all day in my room because i HAD TO HAVE that green house effect added in my room and for luigi's mansion i dident even know about that one ghost in the extra room that was a game well worth replaying to get the highest rank (even if it did suck doing it again)

Personally I like shorter games in that they are easier to pick up and play, and they don't take out a huge chunk of your time. There is more to life than playing video games, you know. :p
