As I said in the X-Men 3 topic, I work at a movie theater, so occasionally I get to see a screening of a flick. Well, I saw "Cars" last night.

When I first sw the trailer for this movie I wasn't impressed. But, it was a Pixar movie, and they have done no wrong yet, so it had to be good. And it was pretty good, but it definitely had its flaws.

Cons
-The movie tops out ar about 2 hours, but it seems much longer.
-The characters are mostly forgettable, which is unfortunate. Nothing really seemed to jump out and be memorable.
-The intro ( a race) should have been cut. A lot. This is the first Pixar movie that I've been bored of in the opening scenes.
-Many many car puns

Pros
-The character actors (like Tony Shaloub as Luigi) are quite funny at points.
-The animation, as usual, was beautiful.
-Lots of throwbacks to other Pixar movies including "Lightyear tires" (Goodyear + Buzz Lightyear) and Dinoco oil (The same name as the gas station in Toy Story). John Ratzenberger also pokes fun at himself for appearing in all the Pixar films.
-Larry the Cable Guy was tolerable. I absolutely hate any Blue Collar crap, but he did a surprisingly decent job as Mater. The only "ugh" moment was when he yelled "Git 'r done!" near the end.
-Many many car puns

Overall, I'd say that this movie is not a "Toy Story" or "Nemo" but more along the lines of a "Bug's Life", because it's not bad, but it outclassed by Pixar's better films.

In comparison to the other Pixar movies, I'd say...

1. Toy Story 2
2. The Incredibles
3. Toy Story
4. Finding Nemo
5. Monsters Inc.
6. A Bug's Life
7. Cars

Not to say that the film was bad, but it's just not as good as the others.

Saw this movie tonight.

This movie was fantastic. I'd say that it's just below The Incredibles and Finding Nemo as the best Pixar flick. One of the best they've done so far. 2 hours, and really, I could have handled it going on longer.

There are two things I hate. Larry the Cable Guy, and Nascar. I can't stand them. And yet, both (well, not Nascar in particular, but it was racing) were great in this movie. First, the racing in it had me enthralled the whole time. The intro of the movie was loads of fun. Then there's Larry the Cable Guy. Put all your worries about him to the side. Besides a VERY breif moment of him saying "Git R Done" which goes by so quick you'll never notice, he does a FANTASTIC job as Mater. In fact, I heard so many "awwww!"s when it came to Mater that it was crazy. He's a VERY likable character even if he is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy.

Owen Wilson does such a good job as Lightning McQueen. Through a good chunk of the movie, Lightning is a rather selfish, asshole. And yet, Owen Wilson was able to STILL make him completely likable. Paul Newman, Cheech as Ramone, Tony Shalhoub, and Bonnie Hunt all are great in their roles too. Especially Paul Newman as Doc Hudson, and Tony Shalhoub as a car named Luigi. Also, Richard Petty voices "The King".

The animation is, as always with Pixar, fantastic. It didn't break any new ground the way Monsters Inc did for fur, Finding Nemo did for water, and The Incredibles did for humans. But the level of detail that obviously went into researching Cars and racing and small towns in the middle of nowhere is absolutely amazing. Even though the cars have windows on them, and rear view mirrors and the like, you never really feel like "Hey. If there are no humans, why do they have windows?".

Doc Hudson, Mater and Lightning are all memorable to me. Especially Mater. Seriously, regardless of what you think of Larry the Cable Guy, just throw all that aside, becuase he's great in this role.

Also, to agree with above me: There are many many car puns. And a lot of them are in the surroundings themselves. Pay attention to the flies when you see them.

The little animated short "One man band" was a HUGE step up from last years Jackalope short. Honestly, I think it woulda worked better if the two shorts had been switched, so One Man Band had been infront of the incredibles and blah blah.

One more thing: There was a teaser for the NEXT Pixar movie too. Ratatouille (rat-a-too-ee I think) looks fun as well. There's something SLIGHTLY different about the animation that I can't quite put my finger on. But it looks good.

So yeah, I probably sound like a Pixar fanboy but... maybe I am, maybe I am. But Pixar has done it again. This movie was. awesome.

I just have to say that Pixar has made me smile again. It was just that good. And Mater was awesome, too.

Yeah, John Lasseter (or however you spell it, he directed Toy Story) is good friends with Hayao Miyazaki (director/animator of Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke etc).

Finally saw it last night. As with any other Pixar movie I was blown away.
I have to admit it's not my favorite, in fact only A Bug's Life falls below this on my list but that does NOT make it a bad film. The movie was actually one of the better ones in terms of an ending. It's characters were actually some of the most lovable yet. Mainly Mater. The movie before it was amazing too. One Man Band is easily my favorite opening sketch. Some of the expressions in that were priceless. Anyway, back to the film. This movie made we hate Owen Wilson for the first hour and a half. He does such a good job as a asshole it's not funny. And all of the other voice actors were great too. Keaton is not recognizible at all. The main part I liked about this film were some of the camera angles. I think that is the ground that this Pixar flick breaks. The music was great too. The movie is great for all ages and should been seen on DVD if not in theatres.

8/10

Oh and for whatever reason I enjoyed the movie even more when some little kid in the back started SCREAMING about a helicopter.

I admire Pixar, but I'm not a fanwank. To be blunt, I thought this movie was terrible.

Amazing visual effects, pathetic story and characters. Maybe try not to get a lame actor for the main role, either.

Great movie, though I don't know why
Spoilers:
Nobody even hinted at the stuff during and after the credits, like the Pixar parodies and the end after the credits

.

I really can't think clearly enough to give my full opinion, though I might later.

9/10 (Most Pixar movies get 9.5 or higher, never 10.0, though. So this is still awesome, just not as awesome as other Pixar movies.)

I'm bumping this because it's recently come out in the UK (and probably other countries).

But I agree with Tonberry here. Awesome movie just not as awesome as the other pixar films.

But jesus, i've never seen so many kids in one room. *drool*..... aha just kidding. It was goddamn noisy in there.
