Wolf always had the eyepatch, even in Starfox 2 for SNES. He has some advanced eyesight dingle on Venom which seems to be customary to the Wolfen II, as most of the Star Wolf team had it.

I like the fact the team keeps on changing, since it makes it more interesting than having the same characters over and over again. I would like to see the Star Fox team perhaps become large, with a few more members added. Somebody's going to have to take Peppy's place... I sure hope it's not that female frog >.> Also, who wants to bet that Krystal flies in at some point in the game to save your ass? Edit: By the way, if we're going by continuity, shouldn't all of Star Wolf be dead? Besides, you did shoot them down (twice if you go through the hard route) and they seemingly died in Star Fox 64... Considering the team needs a replacement for Peppy, I think it'd be cool if one of them replaced him. Also, Algy from Star Fox 2, apparently the precursor to Andrew, is goddamn creepy looking.
