Also, graphics play a large role in games. I for one prefer the 3D Zeldas to the 2D ones, while games like Metal Slug being in 3D wouldn't work.

I don't see why this is such a problem. Better graphics can only make the games better, and we all know how great Nintendo already are at making games. Stop complaining.

If you're allocating resources towards improving graphics, something has to take a hit.

Who knows? All of these recent games which people have claimed to be shorter or not as cool as old game could be results from moving on to new graphics technology.

It's one thing to create a sprite, but to create a 3D model and have to put multiple textures on it multiplies the work.

Uh, do you people understand that a large portion of the games Nintendo has created in the past wouldn't have been the same without the cutting edge graphics they supplied? Starfox would never have been what it was without cutting edge polygon rendering. It would have just been another side scrolling shooter. Super Mario 64 anybody? The game that set a standard for non-linear gameplay mechanics, and 3D control that would actually successfully work? Ocarina of Time was the most expansive game out there. Much like Starfox 64 before it, it featured distance draw, something the Saturn, or Playstation could never pull off.

I think what many of you people are trying to say is that gameplay is vastly more important than graphics. But that's not true. One element doesn't take a backset to the other. They both ride in seperate vehicles.

Also, a lot of cool Super Nintendo games get their features from the new technology put into graphics I guess. Same thing with Sega Genisis and "blast processing".

I guess I just can't concieve what the next jump would be, it seems that when you go from 2D to 3D, only sequential additions to graphics can be made until you reach models and scenery which actually compare with real life.

Yeah. The Super Nintendo relied almost solely on coprocessors due to the fact that Nintendo had not yet implemented disc technology into their games.

Without these coprocessors you wouldn't see games like Yoshi's Island, Kirby Superstar, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, etc.

The same goes with the Nintendo 64. It also relied on accessories, which were seemingly useless, but did improve gameplay elements and the graphical appeal of the game. The Expansion Pack for example, created "particle effects", which were randomly generated particles, or images within the game, that would be used in things like the explosions in Rouge Squadron, and the rain in Majora's Mask and Donkey Kong 64. These effects were not revisited until the Playstation 2. Let's also not forget the Nintendo 64 Dynamic Drive as well, which supposedly could support magnetic discs similar to that of a mini-harddrive which could contain a slightly bigger amount of memory than Playstation discs.

So I think it's pretty sententious to discredit an entire company simply because they are considering focusing on graphics next generation. It's Nintendo, you aren't going to see good gameplay go anywhere soon even if graphics are taken more firmly into consideration.

That's Because Stupid people think Graphics are better than gameplay when it should be the opposite way around.
Take a look at Games such as Banjo-Tooie, Pikmin and even Animal Crossing. Sure their Graphics may have been Below Sub-par but the gameplay is just fantastic.

No dude it's not "Stupid People" it's just customer preference;
