| QUOTE (Admiral Delmore @ Jul 8 2006, 10:46 AM) | | Except this is a MINIGAME COMPETITION. If you made a full fledged game like Super Mario Epic 2 or something, then recolored it to this pallete, then should that be allowed? The point is to make short games with a lasting appeal, not huge long lasting games. The Wario Ware game would be fine if it wasn't a collection of minigames, and if you made like, a one level platformer that had a big level, sure. But if you made a game with twenty levels and lots of features, that doesn't seem very fair. |
Fair?
I tell you that everything is fair as long as you can do it in time. The competition is limited to time, not to size. If you CAN make a 100 level game within 1 month, why not do it? The thing is, that nobody CAN do it.
It's like in sports: If you can jump 2 meters high from standing, you will win. But first you need to be able to jump 2 meters high.
The name also was chosen mostly to encourage people to enter IMO. Normally you need more time to do a big game and nobody would enter a competition that lasts half a year..
Oh, btw, is there anyone who needs extensions? Post now and do not complain later.

Except this is a Minigame Competition and not a regular Game Competition. If everything is allowed, no matter how big, then why is it called Minigame Competition? That's just silly then.

MINIGAME Competition. Not Game Competition, MINIGAME Competition.
| QUOTE | | The thing is, that nobody CAN do it. |
Not really. In fact, with so much time, it is totally possible. Maybe you couldn't do it, but someone sure could.
| QUOTE | | The name also was chosen mostly to encourage people to enter IMO. |
Because minigames are easier to do then full games. If they actually knew that full games were allowed, entries would probably be lessened even more since people don't want to go up to that if they whip a small game up.

As the creator of this minigame competition along with Someguy, allow me to reestablish what has already been said:
It is a requirement when entering a minigame competition to enter something that is far less expansive than a normal game. From my understanding, it is unacceptable to enter a game that's complete, like what you seem to be saying. It's not the fact that you 'can' or 'can't' do it, it's the fact that it's extremely disruptive and confusing to other people. If one person creates a fully expansive game, not only do people need to play through all of it in order to pass judgement, but it creates friction in the balance of the minigame competition. One entry is "Super Mario's Fishing" and another is a full blown epic real-time RPG allowing you to create your own character class, etc. It's that the two are incomparable.
Also, I would like to point out that your "sports" analogy, in actuality, is the same thing I'm talking about; if somebody is able to jump consecutively higher than all other athletes, they are disqualified from the tournament they would be entering.
Roger Bannister wasn't allowed to run in the special olympics, for example.

| QUOTE (Kramer the Bird @ Jul 8 2006, 12:47 PM) | I think I'll just drop out and release my game elsewhere, then. It's not a "full blown epic real-time RPG" or a "full fledged game like Super Mario Epic 2," but I won't risk getting disqualified or anything over this.
By the way, we really need an official set of rules here. I looked at some of the older competitions in the archives, and a few of them actually specifically stated that there was no size limit. Since I haven't participated in a minigame competition since then, I was still going by those old rules. |
We do need some more official rules. I'm actually on Guinea's side that if you can make a 100 level game in the time of a minigame comp, it should be allowed. Chances are unless you make it priority numero uno and focus on it day and night, it's not going to be too extensive.
Also, if you do make it too long or boring, then it obviously isn't going to win when voters hardly take the time to play a minute or so of the entries now.
Good luck with your game Kramer =)
