Here's an early version of a game I've been working on for the last couple of weeks in flash. It's a fighting game thats a split between super mario world and super smash bros.

So far up to four people can play against each other in a bunch of different levels and the camera zooms in and out to keep everyone on the screen.
Powerups so far:
Mushroom, Fire Flower, Hammer Mario, One-up Mushroom, Star, Poison Mushroom

Todo:
Backgrounds
Add the rest of the sounds
More powerups
Enemies
More Levels
Music Blocks/moveable spring boards
Ability to carry shells
Online(doesn't work yet don't bother trying)
Other game modes
Fix a couple glitches

Keys:

If anyone wants to make some maps for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Download the file below and extrace the files to C:/mario (if you want to put the files somewhere else you will have to open up template.txt and change the directory)
Then go to www.arraypainter.com and click download, and open up the template.txt file in arraypainter. I don't have a way to let the user add there maps in yet so just pm me the contents of template.txt and I'll add your map in a later version.

im pretty sure your not supposed to use .swf as a downladable fan game. try hosting at imageshack. just link the page

you may want to cut off that link really fast so people dont steal it and submit it to other websites that are flash based.

(idk i may just have the wrong program for playing it)

i ment to say dont put it up for download, take off the file. i played it useing the link, verry nice. its supper smash bro's-ish (thats a good thing) just put backdrops and such.

Hmm.. It didn't work for me.. I couldnb't evcen start the game. THe problem is probably that the computer is old, and it takes like 20 freckin minutes to load a flash game or movie on it:-(

It needs at least flash 7 to work properly. If you use an older version it will still load but the buttons won't show up.

To MechaBowser:
I know the connect button doesn't work. I don't have online working yet. If I start the server up you could play online but it's really jumpy so I'm trying to make the online run smoother before I set up the server.

EDIT: anyone know what I should call my game?

Oh ok, then I guess that's the problem....

But, right now what can you do in the game? Can you stomp on enemies, stand on moving platforms and stuff like that? Reason why Im asking is because it looks like it's in a pretty early stage ph34r.gif

Yeah it's in an early stage right now. You basically just try to get the powerups and try and stomp/shoot fireballs/throw hammers at the other players and try to be the last one standing.

Since you stay in the same area the whole match instead of going through a level like the super mario games I made the question blocks and blocks that get broken respawn 4-8 seconds after they are hit/broken.

The only enemies I have right now are koopas that sometimes come out of the item blocks instead of a powerup.

Since your basically just fighting in a small stage I don't really know how I should put enemies into the game because I have to make them respawn or they will just be all killed early in the match.
Right now they just randomly come out of the item blocks sometimes but I might change it to randomly spawn a koopa/goomba every 20seconds or something.

EDIT: updated game
now able to exit game, displays winner(ugly big message across screen), poison mushrooms added, new map
mapmaker added (check first post)

I started this game as a project for class and i didn't even know about that super mario war until I had been working on my game for a while already. I stopped working on it because it was basically the same as super mario war but I've decided now that I shouldn't stop just because theres already something similar and I may as well finish my game.

its a bit like super mario war, but a bit more like ssb (not just because the scrolling camera)

bug, if you set fixed camera and preserve ratio on at the same time you cant use items

This is looking good.

SInce it's so similar to SMW, you could add stuff into the game like new fighting moves, special move, and ... yeah you know, stuff like that.

Update
-decided on a name
-changed the background to blue since white was ugly but i still want to add in background images at some point
-added climbable vines
-option to turn sounds on/off, still missing some sounds though
-a couple of new maps
-fixed spawning so its actually random now
-online is working now but i've got to try and find a host for it because i can't leave my computer on all day so the server is still going to be down right now
-animated breakable blocks
-you now die if you fall off the bottom of the screen anywhere instead of just the sides (might make it level specific later)

Any sort of file is fine, as long as it's viewable and doesn't screw up the computer or something.

Great job on the game so far, especially since you're using flash to program it. It's not without it's gameplay and graphics errors, however, but I expect you already knew and plan to do something about it.

Yeah, I know it's got a few problems but I think I'm doing pretty good so far. Especially since this is the first program I've ever made in flash so theres alot of things im probably doing the long and hard way.

It's always more fun to make some large program to learn a language then to make hundreds of pointless "print all the numbers from 1 to 50" type programs.

There's not much point in me making it a downloadable file now but before the attack key for player 2 was ctrl so if the player jumped and attacked at the same time then the browser would close(ctrl+w) so I wanted to run it out of the internet browser. But then I realized it closes in flash player too so i just changed the key.
