Emulation.

I don't see emulation as a cheap way to game.
I see it as a way to play old and rare games I would never get my hands on here in sweden.
I'd rather not emulate anything newer than the N64 nintendowise, the roms I emulate the most are often games I already own.
Emulating, is also way for me to play old popular games that are virtually impossble to find. For example: SMRPG and Eartbound.
I wouldn't emulate, per say, a DS, because frankly, its selling right now. When Nintendo discontinues support for the DS, I'll probably play a few games I "missed", or Titles that never hit europe, like Goemon.

I agree 100%! That's exactaly how I feel. I usually don't emulate anything that Nintendo still supports (GBA) unless I already own it.

I emulate everything. Except DS because technology isnt out yet!!!

Yeah, I pretty much emulate everything I can't get. So basically, N64 games and below.

I don't emulate anything that's less than 10 years old unless it's for a good reason (Like a unreleased game or beta or something). Besides, I've not found an emulator yet that can perfectly emulate 3D games on this PC.

I'm interested of emulating a Xbox, just to see if you CAN do it at an acceptable speed.

And on the subject of emulation, i'll usually Download a game, if i like it, i'll buy it.
The reason i do this is because A, You can't Rent older older games, B, Blockbuster costs $10

Yeah, over here I can't recall any strictly video game shops until the Playstation got popular, so I need to emulate to play most of the games I missed out on. Games like Actraiser, Soul Blazer, Super Castlevania, Goemon and a lot of games never released in Europe at all (Mostly on Square's part. Obviously they didn't think Europe was profitable enough to warrant any kind of release).

Plus NES emulation is a must, not only because both the console and the games are impossible to buy but a lot of the games you would be an idiot to purchase. Thank god for Console Classix, so I can try out these games that you wouldn't even think of buying nowadays. People don't know how lucky they are nowadays until they play these games...

I used to emulate new GBA games. If I liked it I bought it, if not, well, then I didn't.
I only use emulators to do something quick. When I'm not bothered to set up the console or search the game.... Or when ripping some stuff.

I used to download ROMs. Three or so years ago I got rid of all of 'em because I wasn't using them anymore and I haven't touched one since.

And there's Rom hacks, of course. Those are normally quite fun, at least for the novelty...

I usually just do old games/systems. I haven't tried, and probably won't try, N64/PS1 etc. I'm a SNES and Genesis kinda guy.

Plus, emulators offer patches, which make the games like they're brand new again.

Emulation of new games and new movie piracy are for idiots in my opinion. I don't care nearly as much for software piracy, emulation of old games, or music. Particularly because software can be so damn expensive nowadays and music CDs are overrated when it comes to buying them. And old games are hard to find.

I'm even against ripping now. But meh.

I emulate stuff I can't get. WarioWare Twisted? I live in Europe, so I emulate it. SMA4 e-reader levels? Same, no e-Reader for us, no double GBA's for me, no SMA4 for me. Really old games like SMB and SMW? Can't get them.
