| QUOTE (Greliz @ Jul 3 2006, 02:33 AM) | | Dude, yes they were. The cutscene after the Revolver Ocelot fight is bordered on half an hour or more. As did the one after the Ninja fight. Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, and Vulcan Raven all had death scenes totalling up to about 15 minutes each. 90% cutscenes may be a bit of a hyperbole, but the fact remians that there WERE a ridiculous amount of cutscenes and it makes it incredibly unsuitable for pick up and go play. |
90% was indeed a hyperbole.
But the game still remained fairly expansive, and I don't see why you and your little buddy SP have such a vendetta against playing an expansive game on the road whether or not it be 'plagued' by cinematics or not. That's like arguing that watching King Kong on a car DVD player is morally incorrect because rather than something easy to 'pick up and play', like, oh say Polarium, King Kong is a cinematic masterpiece and not interactive in the least.
Also, you may have heard a game that was eventually bundled with Metal Gear Solid; it's called VR Missions. It exlcudes all those nastily long cinematics, and brings back 10+ hours of Metal Gear stealth fun.
The only thing I can agree with you about is the battery life; it might be slightly frustrating to have your batteries run out during the middle of a game like FFVII, or MGS. But most long term transportation services, like an international flying plane, and any car that was made after 1998 should have a carjack allowing you to plug in a specially made charger for the PSP into the car, and you would pretty much be good to go if that was what you wanted. So even that argument is flawed.

Actually it's not. Other than Super Mario 64, most GBA and DS games are actually designed for on the go gaming *gasp*. While it's true that there are games that are storyline oriented on the GBA and DS, they are few and far between. When I say on the go, I mean from house to work/school, on breaks, etc. Generally shorter periods of time than you'd spend on your consoles. Consider this, too. You're on a long drive, you bring one lengthy game. You play it for a while. Eventually you're going to get bored with it. However, you bring several short, though entertaining games. They don't require as much of your time. So you just pop another game in.
Bringing a few lengthy games might just border on your patience.

Playstation of course has it's longer games as you say, but it wasn't devoid of "quick fun" titles either. I do see what you're saying as these games were designed for a home console and not for portables, and even Nintendo ports like SM64DS have been altered to make it more suitable for portable. But chances are most of the downloaders are going to be fans of the classics, and won't mind some of the problems they'll run into.
