I've come to a personal decision... that Perma-Bans (Permanent Bans) are too Harsh.

I think a One-Year Ban is a much better, more humane alternative than a Perma-Ban.

Being an Emotionally Sensitive Person that I am, the potential of getting Banned from a forum can be emotionally devastating.
And emotional devastation can REALLY change someone. For better or for worse.

Please Discuss your thoughts on this. I consider this a VERY Important Issue.

i don't want to be a Mean Bean!
but i think the Mod's and admins Need to be more Tuff!

if one brakes the rules on purpose they should Get "Perma-Ban no questions Asked"

if it's not on Purpose how ever it can be Talked bout.

People here get an unmeasurable number of second chances. When the rare moment comes that someone is permabanned, it's very well justified.

Most breaches of the rules aren't worthy of a permaban, really (even if it is intentional).

And as far as never issuing permabans... not gonna happen. Normally, permabans are only issued when its obvious that a member is not going to change or when they purposefully attempt to damage the site or boards.

EDIT: And as RII said, we give members a ridiculous number of chances.

You have to do something REALLY bad to get permabanned, and even then I usually end up forgiving the people at some point down the line anyway

I think you'd have to do something really bad; on the forums or to members via PM or bring an outside dispute on the forums to deliberately harass a member (or members), which would cause outrage and/or chaos at some point.

Yeah, permabans often end up not being quite "perma," anyway.

Think of it like jail, if you commit minor offenses, or sometimes even big ones, sometimes you may still get out, but if you're a total atrocity committer and such, it's a life sentence.

The ones I've seen gotten Permabanned has only been people who'se been intentionally joining the forum only to spam/flame. And to be honest, I'm fine with that.

Some members sign up without malicious intent, and just end up sucking at following the rules.

If a person can't follow the 9 rules of MFGG, then perhaps MFGG is not the right place for them. :/

I suppose everyone deserves a second chance, tho.

I think you misunderstood me. What I was saying was that signing up just to be troublesome isn't the only way to get permabanned. Sometimes it can happen just because you can't follow the rules (for instance, I doubt Remoga signed up just to cause problems, but he did eventually cause enough problems that he was permabanned).

Nah, I understood what you were meaning. smile.gif But if someone joines MFGG, then it's kinda their duty to follow the rules, and action will be taken if they don't. Just as I stated in my previous post.

If you get emotionally devastated about being permabanned from a forum especially when doing something to deserve a permaban in the first place, you probably have issues and need to consult a psychiatrist.

Rofl. Are you one of those people who think that using red ink on school papers is damaging too?

I don't think anyone using the internet to talk on a Mario forum has any room to be referring to someone else as a nerd.

Then again, I could be wrong and may be missing the point of your post.
