You definitely are. Kids and parents are complaining because they think that teachers using red pens to grade papers is damaging to the childrens' self esteem.

I honestly dont wanna see some of the stuff that they post. It creeps the **** outta me.

The grade itself is probably more damaging if it's bad

A lot of people were liberated from permabans, actually.

That includes me, Marigi, Iceman, and JBL.

I tried my best to stop being an idiot ever since, which failed for 6 months after, but I'm much better these days. Iceman doesn't come anymore, but Marigi and JBL never learned their lessons.

Umm, so you would actually just keep on tempbanning someone who is obviously just doing it to provoke people and be a pest, yet never permabanning him even though he obviously can't/won't/doesn't want to learn his lesson, just because you think it's too harsh when it's actually a very good idea atleast at the time?

Ok, maybe not. But I think anyone who actually gets emotionally damaged just because he got permabanned on an forum, absolutely CANNOT handle the little easily forgotten things in real life, like tripping on a stupid stick and whining about it.

And like my example, would you consider permabanning me if I say, broke all of your forums rules without care, and kept on doing it after you tempbanned me?

The only real way someone can be permabanned here is by being a steel-skulled moron who refuses to learn from past mistakes and/or follow the rules. Some forums, you do something bad like post warez or insult a mod and you get permabanned instantly.

Didyou know: if you are on earthlink and you constantly avoid permabans, an admin can request the termination of their internet conection.

EDIT: I fail to see how a permaban can be so devastating because you'd have to do something REALLY bad to get something like that, especially on MFGG. And like everyone said, it's not really permanent anyways. The word forever/permanent I hate because I really can't imagine something staying some way forever.

Extremely annoying member who was tempbanned around 12 times within a short period of joining, then after his last ban he decided to create a duplicate account to post a huge flame calling all the admins Hitler worshippers (you can't make this stuff up)

Needless to say he's perma'd

if you're persistant enough you can pretty much get around any ban

oh and he wasn't very nice on one of his duplicates

but if you happen to bypass an IP ban you just end up pissing off the admins even more

My Idea of the "One-Year Ban" is designed to work on the basis of Three Words: Mercy. Forgiveness. Hope.

People who have some Hope of coming back:
1. They are mature enough to accept and learn from their pasts mistakes.
2. They really, and still, care about going to a forum that they used to be able to go to.
3. They extend their hand out to that forum in need of forgiveness.
4. They have someone in that forum who can come to forgive them at some point down the line.
5. If it is within their power, they are shown mercy and become unbanned OR their Perma-Ban is changed to a One-Year Ban instead.

People who have no Hope of coming back, The Traits that define them:
1. Immaturity (Spammers)
2. Contempt (Disrespectful Posters)
3. Hatred (Flamers)
4. Selfishness (Insensitive People)
5. Stubbornness (People who will never learn/change)
6. Malice (Hackers in General)

The Flaws that I see about my "One-Year Ban" Idea:
1. It can only work in Large, Popular Forums with lots of Registered Users.
2. It would only work on people 15 years or older?



Even though a Forum is just a Forum, there are some people who consider Internet Friends just like friends they have at school. To ruin your membership would be to lose those friends... perhaps forever.
It's just like what KritTheRed said: when you think of it as Jail, a Perma-Ban is like a Life-Sentence.
And that's where (some of, or all of) the Emotional Devastation will come from.
