I've also seen this reported at other forums.
Whenever you start Mario Kart DS on an original DS, the startup sound is Mario saying "Yahooo!". (that's when the "game, scenario, music, program, etc" message is shown).
Whenevet you start it on a DS Lite, the startup sound says "Here we go!"
Does anyone know why, or the possible reason why?

There was a secret shop you could access if you played the Zelda Oracle games on a GBA, even though the games were released on the Game Boy Color before the GBA came out.

It's probably something like that, just a little easter egg for people who play it on the Lite.

It's not like they made the lite in 2 days.

The only thing I like more about the original DS than the Lite is that you can ACTUALLY hear the music nicely. I remember once playing NSMB multiplayer Mario VS Luigi with someone, me on my Lite and him on my DS, the DS was far louder and sharper than the Lite's crappy speakers.

Dude, there's probably just one value in the game which checks what console is being used.

0 = DS

1 = DS Lite

2 and on = Who knows?!?! LOL

and then something like

if(consolevar==0){playsnd mario/yahoo.wav}
if(consolevar==1){playsnd mario/letsgo.wav}
