So I'm on the way to CityPlace (a local cultural center) with my friend Nathan Marino so we can see the 8:25 showing of Pirates of the Carribean 2. We call our friends Sarah Midden and Carly Kraszewski, who are already at the theater, and tell them to stand in line so we can skip it. When we get there, they are next in line. We walk over to them and every showing is sold out. They already have their tickets, and they don't want to ditch us... so they trade theirs in for the 8:15 showing of The Devil Wears Prada. We bought ours as well. After that, we walked over to Barnes and Noble and ran into Taylor St. Clair and Paul Brill. They also had tickets to The Devil Wears Prada at 8:15, but in a different theater. At 8:00, we left Barnes and Noble and went back to the theater. Nathan's parents were there and had tickets to the 9:00 showing of Pirates. We look depressed because we weren't able to get in. In the theater, Paul decides to stack all of our tickets together so we can get in together. As we walk in, at around 8:10, I notice that the sign above the door said "Pirates of the Carribean"... I kept it to myself. There were only six or seven people in the theater, and I said, "This can't be right. The show starts in five minutes, there's no way that there're this few people here. I bet they're showing Pirates in here at 9:00." We sat down and waited for the movie to start. About two minutes later, two girls walked in and asked if we were here to see Pirates. We told them no and they walked away. At around 8:20, the movie still hadn't started. The man behind me went to go ask what was going on. When he returned, he told his wife that they had no record of an 8:15 showing of The Devil Wears Prada in theater 11. I said again, "You guys, I bet they're showing Pirates in here at 9:00!" Around 8:30, a theater employee came in and said, "Hey, if any of you guys are here to see The Devil Wears Prada, we moved that downstairs. This is going to be Pirates at 9:00." At this point, Sarah said, "Chris, you're a genius." As it turned out, we were the first ones there for the movie. It was completely packed with no seats left at all. If we showed up for a 9:00, we never would have gotten seats.
What are the odds of any of that happening? I don't know, but I'm sure glad it all did.
