There's a program that let's you easily make these, with the previous frame shown in light grey and all. O_o I think xgoff posted it a year or two ago in the PPP.

You can do that in Fireworks, just set "onion skin" to like 30% opacity and to the frame before current. It's how I do my sprite gifs because I suck at remembering where I put them exactly.
