Fear not, for while BC adds new content; game servers will not be split. You can still play with all your buddies in all the areas you ever could even without the expansion. Just a select few things (dungeons, races) won't be available to you.

I don't need anything to back me up. If you play WoW, you know Paladins have nothing on Shamans.

Paladins have longer survivability, but Shamans have better nuke power. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Pallies almost always win 1v1 against a shaman. Bubbles and better mana conservation.

So in burning crusade Druids made better tanks than Warriors because we had an awesome threat multiplier for everytime we used maul and such but GOOD GAME blizzard, instead of buffing warriors, they nerf druids! So now we all suck!

Blizzard's never made a balanced game before that I can recall, so I doubt it's that simple Jak

Blizzard games doesn't have very balanced players, so it evens out~

Frost Shock? Blessing of Freedom.

Chain Lightning? Bubble Heal.

Run Away? Hammer or Wrath.

Well, each class was designed with a counterpart that it's strong against. Lots of the time the balance shifts with buffs and nerfs in new patches, but blizzard always ends up fixing it. It makes PVP a pretty balanced system overall. The problem is that Blizzard would like to make Shamans and Paladins have more class defining roles, but to keep the balance they would need to add the classes to the opposite factions.

The only real unfair advantage I see Paladins having over Shamans is in PVE. Paladins have many roles they can fill in instances (dungeons), but Shamans can mainly only heal in them. So anyway, I find PVP to be balanced while PVE is not.

And speaking of blizzard making balanced games, I thought Starcraft was pretty balanced.
