Off to college, Stay humble, mis amigos

Title says it all, really. I finished high school up here in Panama City (northwest Florida) and I'm movin' on down to the land of wonders, Gainesville FL, to attend the University of Florida. I'll be majoring in Digital Arts & Sciences, in which I'll be trained in computer art and programming. If all goes well, I'll land a career in the video game industry and eventually achieve my dream of helming my own video game project.

Initially I wanted to attend DigiPen, a most excellent specialized videogame college in Washington with ties to Nintendo of America, but it was too far away to be practical. I'd have to travel a crazy distance to visit my family and the out-of-state tuition for it would've been crazy, especially without my in-state-only scholarships. Maybe I'll transfer when I'm more independent and better off financially, but for now looks like I'm staying here.

I'm moving out with my brother on (or around) the 16th and I'll be starting classes on the 23rd. We have a two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment, which is awesome since I've never actually had my own room before. It'll be great to finally be able to watch TV whenever I want to instead of waiting for my family to give it up, constantly. I've also finally got enough space to take out all my old action figures, which have been in storage for a great many years. We also got a pimpin' new computer that I plan to set up a PVR(Tivo-type thing) with.

I've also begun learning to cook from my mom, since my family will be 4 hours driving distance from our apartment. Today I learned how to make Basmati rice with Garbanzo beans or green peas and I already know how to prepare masala-fied Chicken.

As far as my first-year classes, my schedule isn't finalized yet, but for now I'm taking:

• Biology
• Calculus
• Some enginerring class about "Subversive Philosophies"
• Japanese (I have this at 8:30 PM every weekday, harsh!)

For now it's just general stuff, but as time goes by my classes will become more specific to my major. Japanese will be exciting, though I don't pretend it won't be challenging. I can't wait to decipher all the Japanese-only videogames I play.

So, yeah. That's that. I won't have cable or internet until at least September(maybe even later) so I won't be able to visit MFGG for a while after I move. Anyone else going off to college?

Haha, cool. Sounds like we're heading down the same path. (I had to give up on Digipen as well) Maybe we'll end up in the same college someday. I've got one more year, though.

I've been to college but only to work there. Yeah, apparently you'll get laid alot. That's what students tell me anyway...

Well, I've got morality and all that good stuff so that won't be much of a problem.

I feel bad for you on that 8:30 PM Japanese class. That means you'll be going to class right when everyone is getting out to hit up the town.

I go back to college on Monday. Thank god my latest class ends at 3:30.

Ah, that course sounds tough, I hope you can pull through and it awesome your mother is teaching you how to cook. Also, if you fail Japanese in your first year, don't worry too much, it has a high fail rate for first years ( well, it depends on the course as well ) Nevertheless, enjoy college anyway and good luck with it. Biology isn't too hard but its not my favourite of the sciences.

Myself, I finished a PLC ( think of it as college before college ) course in Graphic Design in June ( I only got the results last week, I passed! Also means a fancy graduation ceremony for me in October! ), the course was a very good stepping stone onto a more proper college.

I hope to do Design Communication ( thats a fancy name for the proper Graphic Design course ) at CIT ( thats Cork Institute of Technology ) in September, which a 3 year stint at least, but there is a 4th year if you want an honours degree, which I want. I still don't yet if I got in, I'll know by 6:10am on Monday, 21st August!

I was planning on moving up to Cork this year ( its not too long a bus drive up to where I'm from but its annoying trip, often in a tiny, overcrowd bus and the last bus is at 11pm, which sucks ) but seeing that getting a job around here is near impossible ( thanks to all the foreigner’s! ) , I'd had to postpone that plan.

This'll be my last post before I pack up and move. I'm heading out tomorrow morning and it'll be a while before I get internet access again. Until then, later bobcats.
