If you want to get the game with the best feeling, then why not use the original SPC music to acompany your game?

I've uploaded 2 dll's that you can use to play SPC music with. The files are on the admin'slist at the moment but should show up the either day. But I've shared it for now on my esnips acount. Link follows later. And this is for GameMaker 6.1 and above, haven't tried it on GM5.x so I dunno if it works.

Instructions:

1. Download the files here.
2. Import the script into your game.
3. Add the dll's to your game folder.
4. Read the script, add an object that call the routines in the script
5. Pick a nice spc to play.
6. Run the game.

Catches

- Takes sometimes a short while to load a song
- Echo efect is affected by the samplerate you play it with. Lower samplerate = slower echo.
- Notes get stucked if synthesized sometimes (SMRPG 1-37 long long ago)
- Generated noise doesn't play right.
Freeware afaik

No credit to me, all credit goes to Sindarin.

That I can't help you with.

It should be if there is a plugin that can bridge to Winamp and use it's in_spc.dll.

There's a CNC/MMF(or was it just MMF) plugin that could use a DLL to play SPCs, though it didn't seem to be the best DLL of them all, it did all the harder work for you. So much so that there wasn't much customization to how you play them.
