Minigame Competition #17, What if Shiggy made Pong, Breakout & Co.

Can we use a Foreigner song as the BGM considering that it was one of Miyamoto's favorite bands, and that the technology to place eight track players inside of arcade cabinets was experimented?

Are major I mean MAJOR changes to gameplay allowed?

There was never a rule about not using modern graphics/sound.

Where have you been, son? The Cold As Ice Single took the charts by storm in 1977.

If I use a dwindled Foreigner MP3 I can replicate an eight track sound, and eight tracks were used in arcade cabinets, so it's essentially not considered modern on any account.

While we're at it:
Bacteriophage has kindly asked if it was possible to use PITFALL as a reference, although it was made 1982, so a bit AFTER Donkey Kong.

I personally don't have a problem with it, probably that turning out into a great game.
The thing is, I don't know if it would be fair, since the rules clearly say that the game has to be made before DKA in 1981, so what do you think? Should Bacteriophage be allowed to use Pitfall as a reference or not?

Pitfall seems fine to me. It's a classic game and it's close enough to being an arcade game (given the nature of games on early Atari consoles) that I think it fits with the competition's spirit.

You can use every music you want.
You can use anything from Nintendo if it was made before Donkey Kong.
This includes the telescope claw from good old Gunpei Yokoi, although it is no game.

It doesn't really matter. I wanted to abide by rules, so I chose Frogger instead. I still can't believe it took me that long to think of it.

...well... I've started something about Q*Bert (1982 too) yesterday, can I use this game to enter in the competition or 1982 is too late ?

I was gonna do Frogger... But nah... I don't really like 'clone' games.

What about my question of making a game based off of an idea for an arcade game they couldn't do(and thus made DK instaid)? I was gonna try and make it for the previous competition, but I didn't get to start it, but it was before Donkey Kong, was gonna be an arcade game, and could easily go for either an arcade sim touch or a modern style look, depending on which graphics style would be better to use, trying to remake the old time style or using whatever you want.

*also has a backup plan just in case*
