I'm planning on learning PHP, but I have a few questions:

1) Are there any other languages that I really need to know first (my knowledge of languages is limited to HTML, and I'm not even sure if that counts).

2) Are there any good (free) online tutorials for PHP?

HTML is all you need to know (sure, you don't need it, but you can't display all that much without it)

http://www.php.net has the complete PHP manual - every function, operator, language construct, you name it, plus thousands of user comments which are very helpful. Hands down THE BEST php resource out there, especially considering it's maintained by the makers of PHP and is free.

http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP - Devshed has a good PHP tutorial for beginners - scroll down towards the bottom and work through the PHP 101 series. I found it to be a good transition to the php.net manual, which may seem a little daunting if you're just starting.

other languages? SQL but thats a cinch.

as far as for tutorials, i am taking a php course at www.klik-academy.com ; an actual course with a human leader, not just a bunch of html pages.. but its already started so you'll be a bit behind.

I hardly consider SQL a language, and it's by no means necessary, and the bits you may want to use later on can be picked up quite easily.
