Last time I bought a launch system (Gamecube), it got disc reading errors way too fast. Soon it deterioated to a point of being unable to read but a very small margin of games such as Gameboy Player.

Although its replacement was also a launch system (another Gamecube)...

Nontheless I'm sure the GCN's fail rate was much smaller than the PS2's.

At no point has it been confirmed that the final Wii units are actually in production, so if this story were actually true, it probably would only refer to beta units in the first place; which I would hope to God have errors for the fixing otherwise you really would pull a Microsoft. No one puts out a perfect product first time. But you'd be hardpressed to find that Nintendo doesn't put out a damn good version for launch.

Speaking of which; I know my GCN's laser burnt out, but I cannot pretend that this was rather quickly or with any amount of surprise... it took a long time for this to happen and I know I spent 1200 hours on at least three separate games so...

EDIT: Sorry to clarify, this story is not true; and if it were it would be being remedied as we speak. Nothing to worry about, too much info from far too early a time frame

Sounds like a Roll of the Dice sort of thing to me. I got the GC at launch and it still works perfectly to this day. I've had maybe two read errors.

That's what I was trying to point out since the replacement system I'm currently using is also a launch Gamecube.

But there's no point in denying that post-launch systems will probably be a lot more stable.

But that goes without saying.

Apparently not, since everyone just wanted to jump on me for "attacking Gamecube" without realizing that I was just saying it's generally a good idea to buy systems later in their lifespan because of stability.
