Sprite Competition 87: Delfino Plaza, Top 5 Voting Started!

Congradulations to DSguru who came in second place and great job to everyone who entered.

This compotition's theme is the Delfino Isle. Plaza from Mario Sunshine:











What you'll have to do is turn this 3D world into a 2D side scrolling platformer. That's right folks, Tiles! Make a simple or complicated tile sheet of the delfino Island plaza.

We don't get a lot of background/tile competitions. It'll be interesting to see where this goes

But meh, I suck at backgrounds.

judging by the fact theres a green yoshi, and an odd health bar, someones using an AR, LOL mesa gonna enter.

I don't know what AR or LOL mesa are but tilesets are easy it'll be fun. I'm thinking about making that huge statue first. Someone wanna "sticky" this btw?

No, these are just beta and/or Japanese screen shots I belive. I forget if the health bar was like that in the beta version or if it was the Japanese version...


Anyway, I may enter, as I've never made a tileset/background before. :ya rlyD

Just look at how all the buildings look and everything and try to break it down into the universal squares (tiles) like look at the corners of buildings, and try to find the paterns in the bricks, try to pin point all the basic repeating patterns. If you can find all the shortcuts within things tiling becomes alot easier. just keep trying....

I actually did this kind of a thing once.
I just put the Delfino Plaza 3D model into Cinema 4D, and set it to 2D view.
Then onto AppleWorks and some Pixel dithering.

Unfortunately, I cannot enter. I'm missing the program I use for Painting/Sprites.

Finally a motivation to work on SMS:A again.
Sure, I will enter.

WONDERFUL! I can't wait to see some entries. I'm midway through the Delino President...or Ruler.... who ever it is Statue myself.

I suck at tiling so I wont enter. But have fun.

I can't wait to see what comes out of this (and maybe even use it in my game). To someone who loves seeing and using tilesets (but not making them) this is great!

I'm trying out new things... W is still IP, so DON'T USE IT YET.
