Regarding some rules and filters., Ok what the hell...

Not trying to point people out but a certain person named GENERAL BIDDY (oops) was banned for saying something that isn't filtered, whish was apparently racist. Now, don't think i'm trying to get unbanned cause personally I don't give a crap about him (or anyone else on the forum who isn't called Doc ock, Kritter or mugenmidget. But he's left anyway so maybe I should just stop typing between these brackets right about now).

I'm aware of the name and how offensive it can be to some people. So why isn't this filtered like the N word is to catagorise our other coloured skinned friends? Btw also, "Gay" is used as a common insult and I think that also should be filtered.

So before you say "WELL ITS NOT AS COMMONLY USED LOL" well let's take a look at another racist, unfiltered and missed by the rulebook. Nazis, Swastika and Hitler? They SERIOUSLY offend alot of german people (and others). Yet time after time I see Hitler's image appear on these forums, or a sprite mock up of him. Or Swastika, and any other offensive symbols. Yet they manage to pass through the rules while simple words like *insert word posted above* cause extreme penalties.

Just a little rant/debate, if not a suggestion to this place.


Btw for the record, no I don't mind seeing hitler, swastika's plastered everwhere. Infact I used to drawn them on the walls at school and anywhere else at the time. I'm just thinking about others, like you moddies do when people say nasty words to offend others around the world.

Edit: Oh apparently he got banned for something else, but I still think this needs some love.

This topic probably won't end well but

1. "Gay" is not filtered because it could actually be used as something other than an insult, like a topic about gay rights or something like that. If someone used it as an insult they'd get reported/warned as necessary

2. I just added the word in question to the filter since there's really no way you can use it without an intent to be offensive. Also added several other racist terms that weren't filtered before.

3. I wasn't here when it happened but apparently he was banned for harassing Masakuni

4. I could always make having avatars related to nazism etc. banned, although when I do the administration itself will be accused of being nazis hurr.

if that is the case what happens to my Adolf sprites i made?
will that count as banneble?

Censorship is a funny thing. You have to censor everything or nothing at all.

But people will still complain either way.

You're pretty much right about the nazi thing too, it's just that I don't think anyone here is seriously offended by it, considering it happened so long ago. But yeah there are definitely racist ideals associated with the Nazis. The question is where do you draw the line with stuff like this? It happened so long ago that nobody here seems to get offended by it, but I always get several reports whenever someone gets a 9/11 avatar. Should both be allowed? Should both be banned?

The only thing I can really come up with besides it having happened so many years ago is that most people with Nazi-related avatars aren't doing it to be offensive, they're just doing it because they think Nazis are amusing/cool/whatever. So now you get into a debate on whether stuff like this should be judged on the intentions of the person with the avatar.

I'm not really offended by any of it personally, but when you get really technical it does seem odd that certain things like this are allowed and others aren't.

The difference I'd say between the Nazi-Hitler thing and 9/11 is that most people aren't mocking the event that happened when they post about it. 9/11 you keep seeing funny pictures making fun of what happened. Hitler, all you're seeing is his image dancing and whatnot.

Parodying tragic events is where you draw the line.

As long as it isn't something along the lines of "Slay the Jews" hip hop remix we're okay.

Well really if you think about it, swastika's are supposed to be RACIST, which is my concern in this topic. In my opinion there's only really two ways to go with this sort of thing when booting up a new forum:

1) Allow anything, including racist words/images

2) Disallow anything which could POSSIBLY offend anyone. Including sexual, racial, traumatising, deaths (9/11, cancer etc), family (YEr Mom etc).

Btw 2 is hard work in a forum this big.

Alot of family members, friends etc died in the war. Along with many germans being rulen by some madman thus making their country a mockery.

does it REALLY matter that much? I've never seen any fangames like dodge the hitlers before.

I am most certainly not disputing the fact that the war was tragic. What I'm saying is that nobody's actually parodying it. Just Hitler and a swastika here and there on completely ridiculous pictures.

But then, posting in english could be offensive to those who were opressed by english speakers.

Which pretty much reminds them of the their trauma easy enough.

This is an english forum. If they're offended by it they won't/shouldn't come.

I'd say we ban pictures altogether, and you'd have to get special permission to post them.

Oh and furthermore, we should standardize posts, to the point where making a post = filling out a madlib, which then gets approved by a mod to be posted on the forum.

Well if you want to get reeeeeally technical, the swastika was around before Hitler, and meant something entirely different, but of course now when you see one the first thing you think of is Hitler/the Nazi party.

Like I said before I don't think people who have avatars like that are intentionally trying to be racist. If some person came here and started seriously talking about killing all Jews or stuff like that they'd be banned for racism, but I don't think anyone here seriously agrees with the Nazis. In a few years, once the more sensitive people get over it, you'll probably see jokes about more recent dark moments in history become more acceptable (and to many people they already are).

I think it should be judged on what the mods perceive the person's intentions to be. If someone has an avatar of Hitler eating a watermelon, that's not really offensive, but if someone had an avatar of Hitler gassing some jews or something like that it'd probably be too much.

And NO Body, I think it'd be silly either way to ban stuff like that, considering the nazis are a part of history and your sprites are just depicting that.
