I'm makeing a platform game on game maker 6, and, although I know the basics, I cant make mario deaccelerate properly. basicly, his hspeed gets near o, but he still moves slightly to the left somtimes (soon ill post an engine to show you what I mean).

can someone give me some pointers?

If the speed is something near zero set speed to zero.

I don't know GameMaker, but that'll be my guess.
