MAJOR SPOILERS!
The explanation!
Spoilers:

Me and Cyndaquil went to the top of a great canyon, and we met Xatu. He said that the reason I'm a pokemon and the causes of the natural disasters are linked...
Then we went to learn the legend of the Ninetales from Whiscash.
When you grab one of its tails, you get a 1000-year curse. A human grabbed one of those tails.
His Gardevoir partner shielded him from the attack, but the human fled.
The Ninetails then predicted that that human would one day be reborn as a pokemon. And thus starts the chain of events that is leading to the imbalance in the world.

As so here I am.

EDIT: DOUBLE spoilers!

I wasn't the human in that legend. And I have nothing to do with the disasters. So my role is still in the air.
