If you've been keeping up-to-date on all the news surrounding the target market for the future releases of the PS3 or Wii, you'll find out that North America and Europe do not figure into the profit margin of these two corporate giants. Also, special discounts have been given to their domestic markets while our release prices remain the same. "What the hell?" I say.

Supposedly the "rest of us" will just be gravy on the mashed potates to speak figuratively.

Well I have to say I've never eaten mashed potatoes without gravy...

So I was thinking, "What would happen if no one (in NA or Europe) bought either of these consoles over the holiday season, or perhaps for a longer period than that?" How important would our market be then? I mean, after all, the U.S. is the highest consumer of pretty much everything in the world. I think it would change their perspective on the global market. If everyone cooperated, we could drag those insane prices down to a more wallet-friendly level.

I guess one thing's for sure, I'm not going to buy a Wii until the price drops.

What do you guys think?

I'm getting a Wii on the release date.

Same with about 2 million other people.

Suddenly even 200 people doesn't sound big anymore.

Now I feel terrible wanting to get a Wii on launch myself, though I likely will have to wait till Christmas.

I'm gonna boycott my pants so maybe they'll be more comfortable!

EDIT: By the way, here's the reason this boycott wouldn't work, even if you got quite a few people to participate: if the North American, European, and Australian markets really aren't that important to the console makers, why would they care if their sales weren't super strong in those areas? If anything, a boycott would indicate to them that the popularity of video games is winding down in those markets, which would probably result in even LESS attention being given (and more given to Japan).

Just for the record; your idea of a "special discount" is more like a strategy by Sony to try and stop Nintendo from winning their strongest territory back from them.

There is no "special discount" on the Wii in Japan. They pay what is roughly $30 less for a console that doesn't even come with a game, while they pay roughly $10 (both values US) more per game.

Before you go on a tirade about something, learn the facts:

- In direct conversions, the Japanese have been paying more for GCN games than us in the States.
- Europeans have to pay a premium for their games and consoles because console manufacters are terrified of this place as the weakest territory, they can only hope to sell to dedicated gamers.
- PS3's price cut isn't even across the board, it's only for the cheaper model of the console anyway; which as with the Xbox 360's 'core' console, most people are dismissing as not worth it anyway.

Completely correct. Anything you've heard about the Wii getting a price cut in Japan is fake.

Um, no thanks?

Besides this won't make any difference since only a handful of people would do this anyway, not enough to even make a speck of difference.

And besides I want a Wii just for the fun factor anyway...

I don't have a GC, so a Wii is an added bonus to me (play both GC and Wii games, plus I will have a library as well of GC games that I've never played).
