is it just me or does Mario get away with not saying much by adding alot of "Yahoo" "Wahoo" "ehhay" and stuff like that to every single sentance, there are few examples of times he actually said a full sentance without adding that stuff. Even the stuff Mr. Martinet did for is litered with it. Is anyone else seeing this?

Strong anyway. He's not silent for sure! Just play Mario Vs. DK! He just doesn't say a lot of whole sentences.

That's...A sentence?

Also, in MvsDK, he says "no you don't!" and "What's going on here!", I think.

Mario spoke a ton in Mario VS. Donkey Kong, especially in the credits. "Ah, that Charles Martinet, nice italian boy." "Don't forget to thank Mr. Miyamoto!"

It's a nintendo thing. I think it's like trying to make you sorta think YOU'RE mario. They did the same thing with Doom by not giving the marine a name.

I remember reading in an interview with the guy who wrote the english scripts for the M&L games that Nintendo look over any lines by the Bros. very carefully and frequently change them, so that probably has something to do with it.

And yeah, some of the cutscenes in MVDK were surprisingly chatty. They're each one long "sound effect", so I'll probably rip them sometime in the future.

Miyamoto says that he doesn't want to give his characters voice, because voice = character and predefined character is very unlikely to be YOU.

Miyamoto wants you to be the hero, he doesn't want you to control another person, he wants you to control yourself.

That's also why Link doesn't speak and pretty much nobody really speaks in Nintendo games. Only Fox. (Main characters that is)

All those sound samples like "wahooooo" and "ungh" don't count as voice actually.

Didn't you ever play an RPG like Breath of Fire or Chrono Trigger? Main characters don't talk, but other people react like they do. It's like that in all Mario RPGs too. Main characters rarely talk, actually...

Games that are based on player involvement usually make the player take the role of one of the characters.

Sometimes, you can even switch characters ingame, in which case the one you are playing as will not speak
