Kid fires rifle at local school

This is more of a local thing, but I figured I'd mention it. I can't find any news stories on it because it apparently JUST happened. Also, all of this is third-hand info, so take it as you will.

My dad called earlier from his cell phone and said that a kid was "taken down" at Memorial Middle School (a local middle school). Apparently, he was standing on the steps of a (possibly unused) building behind the school proper holding a rifle, making no attempt to hide the weapon. My dad was unsure whether "taken down" implied that the kid was shot, though it seems more likely that he was merely tackled and apprehended. He said nearly the entire police force is at the school right now, and its entirely surrounded. It didn't appear they had evacuated the school.

Also, an update: I got some facts wrong. Here's how I understand the event went down:

1. The kid actually FIRED the rifle. No word on whether he was firing at students, a particular student, or the school in general, but he did fire the weapon. Also, he was not at the building behind the school when it happened, but at the school itself (whether he was inside or out, I'm not sure).

2. After firing the rifle, he ran to the building behind the school, where he was tackled and apprehended by police.

3. The school is currently on lockdown.

Hey, even more details.

1. The gun was an AK-47 assault rifle with a loaded magazine. He fired one shot while in the school and was eventually chased out of the building.

EDIT: He was talked into leaving, not chased out of the building.

2. The possibility of a bomb being in or around the school was mentioned at some point (by whom, I'm uncertain). All students were brought to the gymnasium for a brief meeting before being led out of the school and onto the parking lot of Memorial Hall, a nearby concert and event venue. They're basically holding them there while they wait for their parents to arrive and sign them out so they can leave.

Obviously a middle school kid can't buy an AK-47, so you know there are some idiot parents out there who had one in the house.

Why the hell would parents have AK-47's jesus

More:

1. He pointed the rifle directly at two students and two administrators while he was in the building. He reportedly told one administrator, "please don't make me do this." He is described as having worn a "makeshift white mask." He apparently had the rifle pointed at a student or teacher when somebody else arrived and startled him; this caused him to jerk back and fire the gun at the ceiling, causing a water pipe to burst.

2. He was not chased from the building, but instead convinced to leave. He was apprehended upon exiting the school.

3. The possibility of explosives being inside the school was gathered from notebooks found in his backpack. The school is being searched by bomb dogs now.

4. The gunman was a 13-year-old male student at Memorial.

I'm pretty sure I'm the one most interested in this story since it's pretty much a local thing, but oh well, more details:

Along with information regarding explosive devices, the student's backpack also contained a detailed map of the school, several clips of ammunition, and a first aid kit. This seems to indicate he was expecting a long gunfight (and even anticipated being shot).

How odd, I started playing the Imperial march just before saw this topic. Music and I have some sort of connection but I don't know how, yet...

So where, exactly, is this taking place?

What would possess a person to actually do this or even think of doing something like this.


first of all it's completely retarded, shooting people who didn't do anything

second of all, do they actually think they can get away with it? You can't run from the police especially enclosed in a building like that, and especially if you're a MIDDLE SCHOOLER with no 'get away' car..
