In RPGmaker2k3 every time I make a battler or overworld character I can't get it to be transparent. I also can't get them in. I save them as PNG but it says 'invalid colour depth' so can someone help me with these 2 things? PLEASE?

You have to click the background when you import it
Like so:
As for the second question, I saved them as 256 bitmaps and converted them using a program such as AhaView.

It's because it has too many colors, I think.

Try saving as 256 color bitmap, and then manually fixing any problems in the sprites. Then import them, double-click the BG color, and accept. Pretty easy, minus any errors in the colors that may or may not appear.
