Mario Kart Arcade Sequel Announced

Damnit still need to play the first one.

Namco Bandai has announced an updated version of its Mario Kart arcade racer, Mario Kart Arcade GP. Titled Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, the game promises new characters, including Waruigi and Tamagotchi, new items and new courses.

Four player races should be more fun than ever with some of the new features. The game now has voice commentary narrating the happenings of races. New frames have also been added to the Namcam system, which allows players to create an avatar by taking a picture using the game's built in camera.

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 is due for Japanese arcade release shortly.

None of the arcades around here even got the first one.

Wouldn't that be a rough Japanese rendition of Waluigi

But they kept Mario, Wario and Luigi as they are over there.


Why can't they keep things simple?

Because Japan is difficult.

Because W is a M upside down, and r is an L upside down. In theory it would make sense for him to be called "ruigi" but I guess they added the "Wa" so that it would be grammatically correct. Then it probably was changed because "Waruigi" sounds horrible in English.

Heh... Ruigi makes sense indeed...
Why didn't they just call him "Ruigi"???

Anyways. I'd love to play all of those awesome Mario Arkart Games.

Tamagotchi? Hmm...

Actually, Wario's name is a semi-anagram/pun on the Japanese word "warui", which means "bad". This goes to say that Wario could be a "bad Mario" or a "Bizarro Mario" (hence the upside down M being a W).

Waluigi's name is a more solid take on the word "warui". In Japan, they added a "ji" syllable to the word to obtain "Waruiji", which is essentially clever wordplay for "bad Luigi".

The first MKGP kicked ass, can't wait!

I can expect to see this in Disney World when I visit again in the future :D.

I still cannot believe I missed it when I went.

Too bad none of us will ever get a chance to play it, ever.

A captial L looks nothing like a capital R.

However, a "crooked" captial L can look like a capital V.

It also makes sense in an Alphabetical sense:
...K, L, M, N...

...U, V, W, X...

An upside-down capital L sorta looks like a lowercase r.

This is likely again something, that'll never makes it to europe.

I've played the first one. They have at the arcade in our local mall.

The mention of Tamagotchi as a character is what caught my eye the most.
