...All I have to say about this, is that I'm going to wait until Nintendo pulls the GameCube release info from their site, although I did intend to eventually own both versions anyway, so losing the GameCube version won't bug me too much...except for the fact that, from what I can tell, the parry attacks (one of the FEW things I liked from Wind Waker) will appear to be missing due to the virtual sword-fighting controls, unless they put in a button command for it.

God ****ing damnit Nintendo. If this turns out to be true this will be the first time I've ever been 100% disappointed with Nintendo.

Couldn't this just mean that the stores decided they're not going to carry it? I mean, it doesn't necessarily mean Nintendo canned it, does it?

It's Hilarious how Nintendo has been making this game for 5 years now and now just when they're near finished they decide to Can the Gamecube version and let it go onto the Wii which was a Quarter of the reason why it was Delayed.

*is currently sharpening a very large knife*

So I'm confused as to what's happening: did Nintendo actually cancel it, or what's the deal?

EDIT: It's still on Nintendo's website, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

They have the Gamecube version removed from the site, but that won't stop them from selling the strategy guide for that version!

Nintendo has reapeatedly said that they would promise to keep it on Gamecube. This article is probably invalid.

There's been no official word from Nintendo. Right now all we have to go on is the word of the people who run this website and the fact that Gamestop/EB Games are removing the game from their system - which doesn't necessarily mean Nintendo cancelled it.

Even if it just means my reservation at Babbage's is no longer valid, I'll still be pissed.

You hit the nail right on the head. I'm just sad I couldn't of steered this topic sooner.

Basically, Nintendo has realized that there is a chance the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess will fade into obscurity in the same way that a lot of people would ignore the original Super Mario Brothers if it was released on the NES after Mario All-Stars was released on the SNES.

So they're saving money by halting general shipments, but will still follow through on special orders (which means you might see it in specialty stores anyways). What this means for people who haven't pre-ordered or don't plan to but still want the game is that you'll have to purchase it directly from Nintendo.

So this means your best bet is through their World Store (if you live near it) or online. As you may recall, Electroplankton was another title Nintendo feared would not perform in the general market. So they gave it a special release in their own store outlet and on their online shopping page. As Jeff and others have pointed out, the release date is still on Nintendo's site, so Nintendo still has plans to release it (even if it is a limited release).

After all, it's not as if the Gamecube version severely inhibits their ability to develop the Wii game. Not to mention that it will provide the game's original orientation (no flipping) and left-handed Link, so it's definitely an easy title to market to the hardcore.

Okay, everybody's freaking out over nothing.

I called Babbage's (owned by Gamestop). They removed the game from their database because they aren't taking new pre-orders on it. The game will be released in their stores.

So I can stop being sad. smile.gif

This is assuming what JoyStiq said is true:

This is basic ****ing economics at work people:

If you are selling the same product on a system that's been clinically dead for a year, and on your revolutionary new system, during the holiday season no less, it's a no-brainer that the version on the newer system is going to move a lot more units.

It's a bummer yes, but it's almost a certainty that the Wii version is going to move the most units, so it really doens't make sense to produce a similer run for the Gamecube only to find out they made too many copies and they end up sitting on the shelves and losing money off of it. If it is likely you will not make much of a profit on something you do not do it. Basic economics/capitalism/whatever.

And OSM, I fail to see how Nintendo is exhibiting "Sony qualities" by doing this. It sucks, yes, but UH OH kaka happens.

Now everybody dance.
