Sorta. It was already confirmed that the PS3's TRC didn't accomodate some of the earlier PS2 and PS1 titles, so it isn't that surprising.

It's not about surprise, it's about the fact that they devoted a good portion of the hardware cost to this feature only to have a large list of incompatibilities (that's not even complete) emerge a little bit after launch.

Although it sort of is a surprise, since they failed to acknowledge the specific titles before Japanese folks had the system in their hands. And apparently there's more surprises to come!

Sounds like a problem. Though I doubt this will cause PS3 sales to drop that much.

The only possibility I can think of is that you consider the other companies to be getting an unfair amount of "bad luck" in things like this.

The thing is, though, that I expect Nintendo doesn't suffer from these kinds of hardware problems because they're just better at preventing them beforehand from happening. Thus, they deserve to end up making less mistakes with their consoles.
