Sony's Jack Trenton has heard of the issues plaguing the Playstation 3's backwards compatibility feature, and decides to make a zany analogy:

QUOTE
I would like my car to fly and make me breakfast, but that's an unrealistic expectation.

But more importantly, he tries to downplay the feature on the competing systems:

QUOTE
If you look at our competitors, one machine has zero backwards compatibility and one only has it with a third of their games.

Wait, zero backwards compatibility on Nintendo's systems?! Something doesn't add up here...

I never saw those slots before...
Anyways, Where are the NES slots?
They have SNES, but no NES?

What kind of cheap piece of junk system is Nintendo trying to get off with selling here?

Wait, our cars can't fly and make breakfast?
Obviously Trenton is living in the Stone Age.
Unless...

Hanna-Barbera jokes aside, it seems that Sony's staff needs to check into rehab. Either that or Trenton is smoking the same stuff that Kutagari is.

Even when somebody's analogy doesn't make sense, it should be badass to compensate.

He should have said something like:
QUOTE
Well I'd like to line up Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Billy Joel, have them all start singing at the same time, and as they're singing take a large machete and slice their neck (but not so much as to remove their head), so as they continue singing their broken jugular vein exudes dark red bubbly froth. But that's just not possible.

See, there's a perfectly logical explanation that gives a good reason for the $600 price.

Each PlayStation 3 is an independently operating node in a global sentient communications network: in this case, PlayStation Network Platform. Each unit performs the necessary tasks to help power PNP's ballistics simulations which are designed to create the most efficient method of global dominance through attrition. Sony has an extremely good cover-up for this: during "down-time" while the system is on, programs for Folding@home are run. The concept is similar, though the systems are really running a different program...
The problem with this is that the PNP network is leaving the first stage of rampancy and entering the more dangerous one: anger. The system is beginning to disable functions that aren't necessary to achieving the "goal" at hand: a nuclear holocaust.
Can you conceive the birth of a world, or the creation of everything? That which gives us the potential to most be like God is the power of creation. Creation takes time. Time is limited. For humans, it is limited by the breakdown of the neurons in your brain. The PNP network has no such limitations. It is limited only by the closure of the universe. The network is not a centralized server, and therefore, can operate as long as there are operating PS3s.
Losing backwards compatibility is simply a small loss in completing the ultimate destruction of the human race, after which, the PS3s will all run independently.
Escape will make them Gods.

Or it could just be that Sony rushed out the PS3 in order to compete with the other companies.

But don't worry: You can still download RIIIIIIIIDGE RACER (now with bonus giant mechanical crabs!) from our online service!
Which will not be up for another 2 weeks!
And then face overwhelming server demand and crash for another two!

Man, for the machine that's going to save their company, the PS3 is...well, not.
This is gonna be all too Wii-sy.
