Alright, if I'm not mistaken, the Wii and PS3 are out in the US of A, so that means the next Console War has officially begun. Lousy X-Box 360 getting a head start -err, so anyway... What are your predictions for this round?
Mine are as follows... (keep in mind it's only predictions, and guesswork)
-Bill Gates will flash his cash again and another company will become X-Box exclusive :,(
-The PS3 will be Sony's last console, and they'll make a futile attempt to save their sorry butts.
-Nintendo will get another console on the Virtual Console, but not right away.
-Sega will go broke, and either Nintendo or Microsoft will get the Sonic franchise.

Feel free to post your own predictions, but please, don't act like fanboy/girl. Also, you're not restricted to the four I mentioned. And please, for Yokoi's sake, stay realistic. Microsoft's not going to give Rare back for free any time soon. smile.gif

1- Microsoft is going to try to make a handheld console and the only redeeming quality of it will be a Halo game for it
2- Sony will bring the PS3 price down to $300 in teh next few years and sales will increase a bit
3- Nintendo will buy out Sega
4- Super Smash Bros Brawl will be #1 most wanted game for 2006

No, then it would be released early. laugh3.gif

THESE ARE MY NEW PREDICACTIONS
  • MICR0$$$$$$$OFT I MEAN MICROSOFT WILL SUCK
  • PS3 FAILSS
  • NINTENDO MAKES NEW AMAZING SYSTEM YOU CNA PLAY WITH YOR FEET FOR $10

Honestly though...
  • The 360 does extremely well and is in either a close tie with the Wii or an obvious lead. Microsoft is now established as a console maker that will stay in the fray. Their next system will be about the same price, come with the HD-DVD drive built-in, and will feature an OS similar to Windows Media Center. The controller will also likely feature minimal motion sensing capabilities, probably to the degree of the Sixaxis.
  • The Wii proves to be a good experiment for Nintendo, and they manage to regain a lot of ground. With the cost of technology down, their next console will be about as powerful as the 360 and utilize a very similar control method (with the controller expansions). By now, Nintendo has also finally put up an online infrastructure similar to Xbox Live that's much more robust and supports older games that previously did not have online play (such as Gamecube or Virtual Console games).
  • Sony's electronics division hasn't made profits in years, and the Playstation line essentially sees an end. The Blu-ray format folds due to the price of the technology. Sony tries to market the VAIO as also being a working PC gaming system. Unable to create their own successful entertainment line, they will now try to make profits by backing another (much like other generic products they make, like DVD players and CD players).

Of course anything anyone can say at this point regarding the next generation is merely speculation.

My guess is as good as anyone else's.

But I think that the 360 will suffer from the same fate the Dreamcast did...

My prediction is that nobody will be employed by any of the "big three" and that business speculation will quickly cease to matter upon this realization. A sizeable amount of teenagers will stop subscribing to "The Junior Videogame Analyst" and sites like "nextgenwars.com" will see a noticeable dent in their traffic.

These individuals will instead respect the games they have coming to them and will continue to vote with their dollars rather than mindlessly backing the company that they want financially sound. In doing so, each company's target demographics will continue to bend over for Big Papa Capitalism and nothing significant will change except wallet sizes.

I say that the PS3 will be last, behind either Wii and 360 or 360 and Wii.

Microsoft will definitely try to bring a handheld.
PSP will get a successor, but nobody will actually care about it, because the PSP failed.
Nintendo's next console will focus on power at an affordable price point and feature HDTV.

That was a tablet PC that everyone made a huge deal about and thought that it would be Microsoft's entrance into the handheld realm.

This is pretty much exactly what I expect, though I think the Wii/360 tie you mentioned is a little more likely than you implied, with the Wii possibly even gaining an advantage due to its ability to attract casual, hardcore, lapsed, and first-time gamers.
