screw next generation, i already have predictions for the next next generation
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER PS3, WII AND XBOX 360.
The Playstation 3, the Wii, and the Xbox 360 have been out for 4 years now. The audience of either consoles are, as expected, in want of something greater. The systems have been great for the years before, however, they serve no real entertainment anymore past the games which provide a replay value beyond just renting games. The audience of Nintendo's side are more prone to buying whatever Nintendo plans on bringing out next, due to the fact that Nintendo fans are generally known for this type of behaviour. They also have well received the success of the Nintendo Wii. The Sony audience have been disappointed on 2 accounts, that the PS3 had cost an immense amount of money, even with down-grades on the price, and on the fact that the PS3 was officially deemed by Sony as the last video game console, though they did not mention anything about the competition. The audience siding with Microsoft have been engaged in an emotional roller coaster; the downpour of the other two consoles have lowered statistically the sales and popularity of the Xbox 360 initially, but then Halo 3 came out, and increased the overall status of the 360. However, Bungee almost immediately announced a Halo 4 for the next console following the release of the third in the series, making the fans grow impatient for a release of a newer Microsoft console. As the year 2009 grows closer, rumours of successors to the current consoles spread from Spanish and German message boards to the world wide internet, even reaching the ears of IGN and 1up.com.
It's the end of the year 2009, creeping closer to 2010, 10 years since Y2k, and 10 years since 2 generations of video game consoles have passed by. It's a ripe time for the major electronic companies to release information about their newest creations.
Nintendo is the first to show, and they reveal only tid-bits about the console, and plan not to reveal any information at all about the controller until the system is actually released. Nintendo continues to sell this system to all the regular fans, but it begins to drift away from the mainstream of gamers' interests.
Microsoft blows everyone away with the intense high definition graphics of their new system, the Xbox Infinite, appropriately named for their view of the unlimited power you can use with their new system. The controllers stay the same format, with it's "Home" button continuing to be placed in the middle, with more functions in connection with the console this time. This time around, Microsoft's new video game console becomes a true successor to the 360, unlike the 360 was to the original.
Suddenly, though Sony has declared the 3rd system on their line to be their last, they have made desperate efforts to create a new "entertainment system," called the "Sony Gameplay," which they have claimed, "does not mean to interfere, nor connect in any way, or come in competition with Nintendo's or Microsoft's products." Though they have stated this, it's become apparent that Sony still has enduring feelings about getting involved with the competition. However, their reputation from the failure of last generation has rendered Sony incapable of even being thought of. It's predicted at this time on many message boards that Sony is finally out of the spectrum of gaming, and the only last good thing that had come from them was the PS2 in terms of gameplay and what gaming had really been about back then.
The final conclusion has become blatantly obvious. Sony has made horrible marketing moves, and could have produced a satisfying, well-popular and lasting system with a low cost at the release of the PS3, but due to their determination, they have lost all hope of returning to the gaming realm. Nintendo has had many great moments, and has been with video games from the beginning. Their successes have been immensely respected. However, ever since the release of their handheld, the Nintendo DS, their innovation has proven to be a new, original and enjoyable gimmick. A gimmick, though, is all it has been deemed. Nintendo's gameplay has become so immersing, that after the release of it's system after the Wii, they have also been thrown out of the gaming spectrum, and classified as a "general audience entertainment function system, which serves enjoyable innovative simulations." Microsoft have been the final resort for true gamers. Though initially the real gamers (defined as having respect of gameplay as the primary importance) overlooked the Xbox series, they have realized that the release of the new system, the Xbox Infinite, has proven to, ironically, hold the tradition of gaming to a point where games are played with a controller, with use of only fingers and thumbs, and where the primary objective of the console, is to play games.
There will, of course, be those who still linger for the old games of the 1980's and 1990's, and continue to hold domination of owning such games, either cartridge-wise, or emulator and rom-wise.
By the end of 2011, the three systems have massively divided, the classification of video games have been limited, and Microsoft's newest console, by definition of society among gamers, has been deemed the true video game console, isolating the other two consoles into their own sections, no longer being regarded as video game consoles any longer.
