i am currently working at a game, i actually started writing it because i wanted to learn c# so am using managed directx which again needs the .net2 framework and a directx version supporting managed directx, the later 9c directx versions of directx (october, december, etc) should support that

so thats why im making this poll cause im curious how many people actually do have the right programms installed in order to play it

its still in its very very early alpha phase, the graphics are done to 70% maybe, physics.. hrm 60% or so with a particle system, transparency, 3d mesh loading but it still entirely lacks a game engine with AI, event triggers and it neither has network capabilities yet so it will still take me a few months to finish it

On my Windows systems, yes to both.

But I suggest you learn to use OpenGL instead

well once you are into graphic programming it isnt a big step from open gl to directx or dx to ogl its like going from c++ to java or c#

but i thought about it before i started with dx and the reason i took it is that first of all managed directx allows you to write very clean organized and readable code and "soon" directx10 will come out which will yet be a whole lot better then opengl and opengl probably will need 1 year or more to catch up with directx10... well 90+% of the people out there have windows, prolly 99% of the gamers and i like directx better then opengl so thats why i took directx

For 2D games the latest DX doesn't really give you anything more. While I havn't written any games in OpenGL, I chose to use OpenGL because it's easier for me to understand.

Despite the teachings of Techokami though, I think your assumption about Windows users is safe enough and I'd like to see where this goes.
