okay, i've got some things to say regaurding everything posted in this topic. it'll probably turn out ramble-ish, though.
people aren't normally afraid of being reported because unlike at most places, we're lucky that our staff are pretty damn fair and just. if they deserved it, they'll get it, and vice versa. i agree with draco, too. stop. secondly, i think that members who request perma's shouldn't be heeded by the admins/mods. again, if they deserve such punishment, they're likely to get it, and if not, they can leave, leave, and never return. sure, they could come back, but if they didn't deserve to be perma'd, there's no harm in it. because they're still a fairly well-behaved member. biddy was no more a troublemaker than a lot of surviving mfggers, and i think he should be unbanned just in case he does ever come back. he really was a nice guy, and he had good intentions. and why was tfgd banned?

Okay, time to be perfectly honest. Listening to Biddy's angry rantings and deciding to permaban him was a huge mistake, but it's one that'll be really hard to reverse. If you look at all the people we've permabanned, Turdlantic/JBL came back in two or three times, Marigi twice (or once, I forget), and even Mugen came back. Just reversing another permaban is an incredibly weak thing to do and it makes permabans carry a lot less weight. Hell, even with TFGD (still dunno about him), even if he was unjustly banned, it makes it look like bans are something that can be avoided by waiting a few months, apologizing, sucking up to the admins, and coming back again. That explains the whole "backbone" comment I made: if we just keep unbanning people, it makes us look like we're pansies that easily give into pressure in large numbers. We're still talking about the whole thing on Forum 12, hang in there.
I should seriously start charging people per month to use this board like it's HBO or something, this is the best drama ever.

So basically Biddy has to stay banned as an example of the manly and powerful governing forces of this forum?
Both you and I, and most of the people on this forum agree that Biddy should not be kept banned for this.
At least try to come up with a better motive if you want to keep him banned.

There's no ulterior motive to this. That's the honest argument for keeping him banned. We all agree that the banning was a mistake, but the problem lies in the fact that it makes the staff look incredibly weak. The consensus at this point is that we should unban Biddy, not because of the protests from anyone else, but on the Mel Gibson defense: he was angry and had no idea what he was talking about, and the permaban was a stupid idea on his part. Make no mistake though that this kind of thing won't be happening in the future. If you're going to request a ban, make it an Unbanned Leave.
The fact remains that this forum has a horrible reputation as far as banning records go. From what I've seen of AIM logs people have sent me, privately, this forum's lax records in permabanning people has been ridiculed to high heaven. Biddy's ban came at around the same time we started a series of issuing more bans for general stupidity. It was kind of a turning point for the way we were doing things, and I admit, I was the one who first brought up the "backbone" argument. We were in a position where we could finally start reclaiming ground and carrying weight, and Biddy's ban seemed like the perfect example of a change in the way we do things. "Permanent" means "permanent", and I felt that had to be brought across. I have absolutely no personal vendetta with Biddy.
Apart from, after the fact, being incredibly offended that he shared our AIM conversation with people.
Discussions are still going on. At this point, I really don't give a **** about this whole situation or most of MFGG anyway. This place has more drama than a soap opera, and I'm the clueless leader or the nasty dictator.
