| QUOTE (Salad @ Dec 19 2006, 03:18 AM) | I read up to page 4 of this topic (on default page settings) about the IQ test or whatever it is, and Shadowan/RII's point about how previous years had topics like this too I really do agree with that, the whole "Golden Age" really is an illusion; you're younger, you find things that you wouldn't find today funny (I recall when I used to lurk the ezboard everyone was like LOL ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US-I certainly don't see many topics quoting Zero Wing now, or at least popular ones, some "n00bs" certainly have done so and have been ignored) etc things like that
While I do strongly agree with that point and Medaforcer's part about MFGG getting a bit "assy" because some people hide behind their computers and act like jerks, I believe the IQ test is a terrible idea Yeah, let's stick an 'elitist' test up so only 'smart' people can register, nevermind the fact that new people who are below mfgg's "standards" are blasted into oblivion by members here anyways! |
I already pretty much agreed about the IQ test or whatever, yeah there's no way we're having that
I had a big post typed up about the "golden age" stuff too but I'm not going to bother posting it, all I'll say is that every forum always has its share of terrible topics, stupidity and flaming and people tend to notice it more as the forum changes over time, and with more members comes more of those things

| QUOTE (Rurouni Kenshin @ Dec 18 2006, 11:38 PM) | It'd be cool if the IRC channel replaced the PPP. You get an outlet for randomness that is more easily moderated and somewhat of an "enter at your own risk" affair (which is kinda like the PPP anyways).
Of course the Pointless Post Palace has been a staple at MFGG for as long as I've been visiting it, but I think it's been made apparent that it's becoming more of a hassle when the administration has to prune it, heavily moderate it, and receive an abundance of reports on its behalf. The General Chat is developing a slightly more lax image, and really I'm not sure what purpose the PPP serves that it couldn't (albeit through more coherent threads).
I'm aware though that some people are unable to operate an IRC client or take advantage of the Java based implementation, so that presents a problem. Still, with all the stress the PPP has caused I think it's definitely time an alternative was sought out. |
I still don't think it's the Pointless Post Palace (was that its original name) itself that caused all the stress but just member attitude in general I guess I'm only speaking for myself but sometimes I just want to post something that's not exactly very important but can still warrant discussion, like that topic a bit back I posted about getting some Megaman games the whole thing was some lighthearted comments, some offhand ones about this game and that game and that's the point of the PPP for me, just light discussion that could go one way or another, but not "copy this topic and fill up 5 pages of topics with it" or something like that; something that actually has some substance to it but isn't as serious as the General Chat; (man I'm slapping ;'s all over the place and I'm pretty sure I'm not even using them right ****)
another thing that's intimidating about posting a topic in the GC for me is that you'll have my topic which would be something like "Megaman games are awesome" next to "FIVE MILLION PEOPLE DIE IN EARTHQUAKE"
oh dear another mess of a post
EDIT: and a chat channel is more "bleargh" for me because I liked browsing the PPP in case there was a little gem I missed that everyone was having fun in, while a chat just speeds by and if you missed it you missed it EDITEDIT: Though the comparison to the PPP to a chat channel was good, as that is what it's like, it's just not as fun or at least for me or "special" if it doesn't have that board format still, where you can view previous things when you log on the next day
