For every 500 members named yoshideluxe4gangstas, there's a couple good people who contribute to the community, and it wouldn't be worth it to lose them.

True. I was reading past topics and man, some sprites not as good as any today were getting loved. People seemed nicer back then.

Maybe make MFGG referral only or something.

Maybe make it so that you have to prove you're not a dick in the chat or something to join. This relies heavily on like... the chat being somewhat busy all the time but :/

This is just an observation, but in 2004, I think there was a similar thread about how much better things were back two years prior to that.

Yeah, me too. Things seem to progressively get worse and worse in all our opinions.

...Was the "Golden Age" in the PPP the same for someone like Rage, Nite or Thunder Dragon?

I totally agree. Admins should make tests for new members, and if they show themselves to be idiots then.. then.. ahh, you guys think of something!

QUOTE (Xgoff @ Dec 18 2006, 07:47 PM)
mfgg wasn't going to stay private regardless

mfgg just EXISTING is enough to score hits on google, more hits = more relevance to the search results

hell a LOT of older members DIDN'T want mfgg to become "mainstream"

Then would an IQ test or something not be in order? Think about all the n00bs that would never be here. Also incorporate in some things that test the person's forum knowledge (how to behave, post, text codes, etc...).

You could have tried harder, sorry to say.

Never said it wasnt. I personally think we should do it, but there are some who come to actually be nice and help others out. And what would we call the test, or what, would an admin pm it to a new member? How would we carry it out?

But with the forum rules incorporated, maybe less would. you're right, it certainly ain't foolproof, but some members wouldn't be here.

Even if those tests let "unwanted" people through, it might tell them what's expected of them from the forum. Like the unwritten rules and such. Might help some people that genuinely don't know how to behave on a forum.

And I'd assume it'd be done on registration.

Well, I doubt RII could or would be willing to code it into the registration window, so every mod or admin would have to remove the posting rights of a new member until they answer the PM'd quiz correctly, which seems a little tedious D:

Yeah. it would stop potential idiots who wish to spam up the forum, and help reform them. There are probably good people in noobs that join everyday.

I dunno, you probably can't stop the alreadyn registered members, but you can prevent more from coming, then slowly perma'b the stupid n00bs.

If the mod didnt put the code into the registration form, then how would the noobs be blocked from posting?

I won’t really be able to contribute very much to this thread, since I just joined three weeks ago. Though I can say one thing, ninety percent of you are intelligent people who can use grammar and speak properly. (Which I can safely say is way more than any other forum I’ve been to.)

Aside from that, I think this “grammar” test (Not “idiot” test, since I end up acting like an idiot no matter how hard I try.) you guys are talking about sounds like a good idea. As for actually performing the test, maybe it could pop up when a new user decides to register, and has to be completed (With a decent score) to be able to register. AND maybe, you could only try the test once per week (Once per day?) to prevent people from repeatedly trying to pass in a row? (Even though figuring out how to do this would probably be frusterating to do.)

...Maybe?

3 years ago i capitalized and used punctuation constantly

if you search through my older posts you can see that

but now i don't because it's a message board--not real life--and no one really cares except for those who are anal about it for some reason
