I actually saw this last weekend, I've just been to busy with tests to write up a munchie. Anyway, I have not read this book and from what I've heard the book is much better. At first Eragon looked promising with some pretty decent Dragon CGI. But the story soon became choppy and rushed and looked like the digital effects team had slopped together some parts.
My main complaint with the movie would have to be how it spent too little time in each scene. I remember one part where in about a minute you see something like four different scenes. It honestly felt too rushed and crammed into an hour and a half. The other main problem I have is the ending. It feels like it's going to be so epic and yet the fighting is over before you know it. Maybe I'm too used to LOTR, but it just came up short. Same with the ending after that, what a terrible way to end a movie. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
The CGI was good on the dragons but when people actually got on one they looked pasted into the picture and moved too choppily. The cast was fine and I have no complaints about acting. Now if someone would fix up the actual script and editing then you'd have a good movie. Sorry to keep this one brief but it’s been awhile since I actually saw it and I’m quite tired.

5/10

I read the Wikipedia article about it and it seriously sounds like FANTASY CLICHES: THE MOVIE.

Sorry for the double post, but Klobber is right. It's a typical storyline with a young hero who doesn't want to accept his fate.

Eh, I do want to see a sequel though.

The fantasy girls must be all over this.
I mean, dragons, and a pretty guy as the main character.

Oh and the Hamburger at MAX was AWESOME.

Someone I know has said the same thing, about the books. I've never read the books or seen the movie, but I must say that what he says sounds accurate, especially after I've seen this site. (Don't kill me, Eragon fans. >_>)

Eh, I'm planning on seeing it, but now, I'm feeling a bit skeptical.

I read the first book though, it was pretty amazing, but...yeah, guess I'll see how it is for myself huh...

I'll probably post a review too once I see it

My sister read the books she was annoyed when she saw a movie trailer out of it. "Why do they have to make a movie about everything?" she says..

Anyway she tried to get me to read the book but I'm not much of a "book reader" and besides the book looks huge.

I heard a couple weenies talking about it at school before summer 2006, I was in a web design class and I couldn't help but listen to their idiotic conversation because it was the only thing I could hear. They talked about the book and parts they liked, I just cringed during the whole thing because one of them was a really big unnattractive girl and the other was this preppy tool who always wore stupid little diamond earring things. And they both sounded like little middle schoolers talking about the book. "hehehe and the part with the arrow i was like oh-m-gee ::giggle::"

and I was like "shoot me now"

The books are good, but in my opinion the movie is an average fantasy cliche. The fact that it bears little resemblance to the original story doesn't help.

My freind's been reading the book, and says that the book is good; though I haven't read it.

Haven't seen the movie either, but the trailers seemed to scream "bad book adaptation", in the sense that I could tell it had good ideas being executed poorly.

Aww, I was looking forward to it, but if it's not as good as it's cracked up to be then I might not go, least not for a week or so.

Here's my reference, made by me. I'm tall, I have very dark blonde hair (in the winter it gets almost brown and in the summer almost golden), which is obviously poofy. I have brownish green, almost hazel eyes, and I usually wear jeans and a t-shirt.

Again, it's not really bad. It's just that the general public says it doesn't live up to the book. Either that or I just have low standards.

Ok, well, I definitely won't go tomorrow, my girlfriend and I were going to see a movie, and it came down to Pursuit of Happyness or Eragon, so we'll probably see the first one. I am looking forward to it though.

This sounds a lot like Chronicles of Narnia for some strange reason.

It can't possibly be as good as the Lord of the Rings movies. The LOTR movies were really good movie adaptations of a classic book trilogy. After reading stuff online about the plot, character lines, etc. of the Inheritance Series, there's no way it could come within a mile of LOTR.

I saw it, unfortunately. Here's a list of what's wrong with it;

1. for the first half of the movie I thought I was watching Star Wars. A farm boy lives with his uncle, who is killed, then meets the village loner who everything thinks is crazy. The old man turns out to be a member of a group of warriors who flourished until one of their own turned on them and killed them all. The old man teaches the farm boy how to be a warrior as they go off to save a girl and the old man is killed by a villain who can kill people by moving his hands. Sound familiar?
2. We know the evil king is evil, but only because the movie tells us that. We never learn what he did or why everyone hates him. They just say "he's not good."
3. if the king has so much power, why does he live in an unfurnished, poorly-lit, cavelike dwelling? Because it's a stereotypical evil setting? Oh, okay.
4. None of the characters interact with each other enough to believe that they any kind of relationship at all.
5. The elf girl is dying from a poison given to her by the bad guy, so they cure her... somehow. They just take her to a town and within minutes she is fine.
6. Black-haired kid shows up near the end of the film and has a whopping 3 lines of dialogue, but we're supposed to care about him for some reason.
7. Speech between characters is clunky and unnatural at best, laughable at worst. ("This wound weakens me." As opposed to empowering you? No ****.)
8. Eragon is whiny and angsty. In fact, he's Anakin Skywalker. It's hard to identify or root for a kid who is a prick. He's also inconsistent. In one scene he commands the dragon to do something because he's the rider and he says so, and in the next, he's crying, asking "why me?"
9. Durza's makeup changes 2 or 3 times through the movie with no explanation.
10. Magic is used to solve everything. Write yourself into a corner? Use your trusty deus ex machina.
