I'm not entirely sure why I was linked to this game. When I played War Rock (after the lengthy download procedure which I was SURE was a sign of an excellent title), I slowly found out the following:
- Some people understand that Battlefield is broken, and can be done better - It's not the people behind War Rock.
Forgetting the obvious Engrish mistakes present throughout War Rock, the gameplay problems are still too much to forgive. Not because it's a bad idea, and not because this is a bad start; but because we're talking about this game far too early.
Its beta status shows from the very beginning, vehicular levels are limited by the incredibly small play space; this seems to be a problem with the game's 3D engine, which for some reason suffers incredible defects when you dare to open the score screen a few times.
There is some stuff to be excited for here, but none of it is packaged and ready to go. Everything that should be amazing is still glitchy; falling damage is hard to judge, aircraft are too easily suicide bombed into targets and then quickly dismounted as if slamming a fighter into a building is perfectly safe for the pilot. A simple parachute item will hopefully be added in the future and crashes will be far easier to trigger.
Rolling on foot looked pretty cool; but because of the nature of the game's main sin (the net code), it becomes impossible to see where a person is going to end up. Trying to hit someone, be it with a sniper rifle or a rocket launcher can prove very difficult on the current version of this game. This renders it COMPLETELY unplayable, and not worth the download.
Every game I was in featured the same brainless banter of would-be average players complaining that they could not damage the 'hackers', when the simple fact was that the game was just so broken in its execution that fighting anywhere but close range ended up a futile effort. This was further shown in my runs across the field on a motorcycle, while bullets whizzed beside and into me at a frantic pace, I took very little damage if any; and seeing as I was playing Engineer, any damage to the bike was easily eliminated. Such a balance issue is crippling to an already weak game.
Furthermore, be it a fault of the game's net code or the damage that's supposed to be coming out of the weapons, it took me four stingers and three land mines to take out a tank at point blank range. And while having this bit of combat I did not seem to take the appropiate amount of splash damage from my own weapons.
What the **** is wrong with this game?! Tell these people to come back to me in 8 months when they tighten up the net code, and make the jet fighting look like the videos they've been showing. What a joke.
Vehicular gameplay in an FPS: Still not done right. That's War Rock.
