Did anyone find the graphics in Yoshi's Island DS as crappy as I did? I thought they could've done such a better job. The kangaroo thing was terribly made and so was bowser. It looked like they cut corners on so many animations. At some points it looked like they didn't even change anything from the first yoshi's island they just stuck it into the sequal. That would've been fine if they wouldv'e released it on GBA or if they wouldv'e kept everything like that BUT the fact that they didn't they stick out like sore thumbs and it just makes it look like junk. It was a pretty fun game for the most part but if nintendo wouldv'e taken that extra time to actually make things look all the same 'style' and make all the sprites actually look good it wouldv'e been a much better game. I did like the backgrounds and objects for the most part but again if they wouldv'e cleaned the game up graphically I think it would be a better game.

The kangaroo was ugly, yes.
But I disagree with everything else. I love the YIDS sprites. Quite a few are recolours of YI sprites (recolour isn't the best term to use though - they aren't just a recolour, the only thing they've kept is the shape and poses - but the shading and colours are all new and so much better). I can't wait until more people rip stuff from it.

Keep in mind it was the guys behind Topsy-Turvy making this one, so it was bound to be more than a little different.

I really like YIDS. While I hated the original YI (I can't stand to play it) YIDS is addictive to play. Too bad it's not very long (I'm already on 3-6 or something like that)

The graphics weren't terrible so as much as they were inconsistant.

And the kangaroo was awesome. >8(

The art direction was pretty bad in places. There are several different sprite styles in the game and Bowser looked pretty terrible, and it seemed like they couldn't decide whether to go with the standard YI scribbly style for backgrounds because SOME bg elements were scribbly and some weren't.

I still think it looks pretty good, but it's very inconsistant.

Yeah, the graphics didn't seem to mesh with eachother in places, some looking like they were straight from the original, some looking pretty decent, and then things like the Bowser sprite and the giant cheep-cheep thing that looked similar in quality to older TSR submitions.

Also, did anyone notice how little Baby DK looks like the Baby DK that was on the boxart? I liked the Boxart version a lot better.

The character design of the Kangaroo scares me.

As for Bowser, the first time I saw the sprite I could have sworn that it looked just like some fanmade sprite pulled off of MFGG or TSR. :o

Though the graphics for this game actually aren't that bad (in fact I quite like them), I will agree about the matter of inconsistancy. The one subject I must bring up is the Tulip - seriously, what the hell went wrong there? It looks like they just screencapped a minimal amount of frames from the SNES incarnation of the Tulip using an emulator, then threw them in the game. The animation on the Tulip was so laggy and choppy, I'm lead to believe that it was intended as a temporary "dummy" sprite until the spriters could come up with a new sprite... which of course never happened, be it time constraints or whatever. Personally, I'm surprised Nintendo let it go, since their games are usually pretty polished (even when made by a third party developer).

I don't own the game, but judging by screenshots they did recycle a lot from the original, but with extra shading and stuff. Then again you could argue the original didn't have a constant style, as a lot of it's graphics had slgihtly different shading techniques and different sized outlines etc.

A pretty good game, but it isn't better than the first one. I think I'm fond of the more creative level designs the first one had. And some of the cool little things that were pretty awesome in the first game (vehicle transformations, running invincible with Baby Mario) were used a bit too sparingly or not at all (Poochy, the watermelons). It was a fun game though, there were some creative levels, but I think the first Yoshi's Island was a better game.

Yeah I'm surprised Nintendo used so many sprites from the original game and not make any new ones.

And by Kangaroo, do you mean the little kangaroo thing you bounce around thing? yeah that was the worst sprite in the game.

Even though you people blame the graphics, I'm still planning to get this game.

Graphics aren't important to me.

They don't matter too much to me...I'm just saying I'm shocked at the lack of differnece in each game's sprites. the gameplay is fantastic though. smile.gif

Kangaroo did not fit in at all to me. And you're right. There'd be no problem if they decided to release YIDS on the GBA instead of The DS. Thered be no difference.

Anyone else think that YIDS is dangerouslt close to AIDS? o-o

I recall the kangaroo being in at least 2 sections.
