Quoted for truth. Yoshi and Baby Mario are from Yoshi's Touch & Go (at least I think they are, but I could be wrong). In one level you can see both new sprites and Yoshi's Island sprites. The roulette bonus game sprites are straight out of Yoshi's Island. The problem is that Nintendo didn't really develop YI: DS. Artoon did.
Now, don't get me wrong. YI: DS is a good game. But the graphics inconsistency is annoying. Not to mention the music doesn't quite fit the Yoshi's Island mood. Excuse me while I go a bit off-topic here...
Yoshi's Island's music had a lot of personality. The outdoor stages' music was relaxing and carried a light beat when you were in a slow-paced stage; that combined with the instruments used made you really feel as though you were in a tropical paradise. When the stage was fast-paced, the music was jumpier and practically said "Go, go, go!" while still keeping a hint of a tropical feel. By comparison, YI: DS's music is rather bland. There's no discernible mood to it at all. It certainly doesn't belong in a Yoshi's Island game. The sad thing is, Yoshi Touch & Go's music beats it. Yoshi's Touch & Go is a smaller game than either YI or YI: DS and is a dynamically different game, but it still retains a bit of a Yoshi's Island feel because the music has that mood to it. If Nintendo has the time to compose quality music for a simple little arcade-style game, then surely Artoon could've spared some time to make some for a larger, more complex game.
