Ive been using game maker for a few days and ive been checking it out. I know about sprites and how to animate them, i just need to know a few things.

- Does this require scripting? if so, help with this. if your moving a character, how do u make him move and animate at the same time. like moving right and having a mario sprite animate while he walks right. im not asking how to animate him, but how to animate a sprite moving while hes moving.

i will be thankful if someone can help me out with this! ^_^ ohmy.gif

I used to have that problem too. It's not animating because the image keeps resetting to subimage 0 every time the keys to make Mario walk are pressed. What I would recommend that you do is, instead of using the "Change Sprite" function (can't quite remember off-hand what it's called, and I can't open Game Maker to check at this moment), with the red Pac-Man icon, use the "Set Variable" function to set built-in variable [i]sprite_index[i] to the name of the desired sprite.

If you don't understand what I'm talking about, just tell me. I would get into more detail, but I can't open Game Maker right now to look at it because a new user account was created for me on my computer today and quite a few of the programs I use (including GM), as well as my own documents folder, weren't transferred over to it yet.

That's not necessary. Just set "sub_image" to -1 and "Change Sprite" will work properly. You can even set animations speed with the same action and without adding duplicate frames to sprite animation.

Trust my words. I've been using GM since 2004

At first I set the subimage to "all" cause I didn't know what to do back then.

It worked just as fine huh.gif .
