First off, sorry if this has already been asked or it's been detailed elsewhere. To be frank, I'm too lazy to look through 10 pages of topics if Ctrl+F says there's nothing about overheating in them. I'm not even sure if this should be here or in Help.

Anyway, I'm worried that I'm putting my Wii in a bad place and it may overheat, but I don't exactly have a lot of options for places to put it. I was hoping someone here could give me a nay or yea.

My Wii is sitting sideways in a TV cabinet section that's 7 inches tall and 16 inches wide. To the left of it is the Sega Master System, which has its controller ports facing the Wii (rather than facing out of the cabinet in order that both systems fit). My Gamecube lived 5 happy years in that spot without a problem, but I'm don't know if the Wii is more prone to overheating.

Also, a side question... the Wii will connect to the internet fine one session, then completely refuse the internet the next session, giving a different error code each time. I have no clue when the internet will work and when it won't. Laptops two inches away from the Wii will pick up the internet fine all the time. Any clue if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks (and sorry) in advance.

Wii is far less prone to overheating than the Gamecube. In regards to hardware improvements this is something Nintendo really delivered on, the Wii consumes a considerably low amount of power and very little heat is ever emitted from it. You would need to be sitting your Wii next to something that was constantly emitting its own heat to ever mess it up.

As for the internet, in my experience the wireless antennae (there are two) inside the console are rather weak. Our LinkSys wireless router is in close proximity to the console and only very rarely is a strong connection established. Your best bet is the USB WiFi connector. With that installed, internet is -never- a problem even from room to room. Do be aware of the limited range of that particular device though.

Ah! Thanks.

When my Wii searches for signals, my signal always comes up with all three bars. Does that necessarily mean it's strong?

Initially, no. It all very much depends on your setup but, I've had completely non-functioning connections show up as 'three bars' while searching.

Wii won't overheat, period.

Wii'll be fine.

If you want it to, you can put stickers on it like they do with X-Box 360
