Update May 20th 2007:Ok the beta of the new version is out. There is still a good ammount of stuffs to fix but I don't really have to time for now so I thought it would might be a good idea to release a beta. Nothing have been cleaned and I'm already aware of most of the bugs, I just don't have the time to fix everything for now Take a look at this post to see what's new with this version http://archive.mfgg.net/index.php?sh...dpost&p=2172163

Well, for those that never heard of that project. I first started it as an open source engine, it was at the beginning of 2004 and it got to version 5.1, at the end of 2004 when I decided to stop working on it. Well for a while... I then restarted to work on it and I turned it into a game. During this time I have improved or recoded almost everything and converted it to gm6. But now, as I don't really have the time to finish what I wanted to do as a game project, I decided to convert it and return it as an open source engine. Something that a lot of people were reclaiming.

Well other than that it's pretty hard to explain what it got in a topic but what I can tell you is that I made my best to make most of the things as close as possible as the original game. I've also put the music that I rip but that I didn't use. Feel free to use them if you need them, if you can understand how it work. I used the JBFMOD dll which you can find on the gmc, just run a search there if you want to know how to use it. But you just have to put the right music object to run a song that is already there.

There is a few things to take in note.

-If I'm making this engine, it's to let people that aren't really good enough with gamemaker to make a mariobros 3 clone. It's like hacking a mariobros 3 rom except that you have control over everything here. And as someone who like playing hacked roms, I would love to see some games created with it

-This engine isn't really ready to make a full game yet. It still have some glitchs and you won't be able to switch to another version if you start making something with it.

-It doesn't have any help files saying how the engine work so I hope you'll be able to understand how everything works. It used to have one but it is outdated. I'll maybe make a short one when I'll release a real version.

-Please understand that you need a good knowledge of gamemaker to be able to use it. Don't think you'll be able to use it if you still haven't made a decent game yet.

-Other than that, you can see the controls in the game's info/help file(Press F1) don't forget that

By the way don't claim this work your own. Let people knows if you use somethings from it or if you made a game with it, ok? Well I hope you will. Not that I mind that much, considering the fact that I barely play people's game anymore but it would be nice. I've put a lot of work in this engine. Also please change my levels if you are going to make a game with it wink.gif

Wow! I just watched the video and it looks almost official! You even added the little effects like the dust from Mario's feet when he turns!

Wow. All I can say is this engine is awesome. It runs slow on my compy for some reason though. Not the engine's fault though. Anyway, once you fix all of those errors you listed (that I didn't even notice) this is going to be REALLY awesome. Great job. You're an inspiration. smile.gif

Thanks! Oh I took this from gmc but I forgot to mention something important. I wrote a list of things that many people reclaimed and/or that I'd like to made. I don't know if I'd be able to do them all though.
-Import the mario bros 3 map engine to the main engine
-Real way to finish a level + Card systems
-Swimming engine
-Slopes
-Raccoon suit and others
-Pipe System
-More enemies
-New bosses

Hmm, you are the second one telling me that he get an error. I don't understand. and I'm not really an expert in gm to know why.

Oh that sucks, but still thanks a lot. Now my hope is more getting more attention though -_- it's hard though when you can barely advertise it. I don't know if I'll get some people from youtube, that would be nice. Other than that it is on 2 other forum but as I don't really play people's game anymore I don't reply and I can't show my banner. Oh well, let's hope for the best.

Cool engine.

Well I don't know... I don't even know where is it now with it but anyway it was a modification of pwyskowski's version. I don't really know what you mean either but mine is much more different now.

Hmm... do you think it's possable to make a version that's un-registered friendly?
Anyways... so you quit making your game? Well, either way, thank you for releasing the next edition of your engine!

Oh yeah sure, do you think you'd be able to let me know what code I used that is for registered members only? I don't remember using any actually. I thought that registered fuction were about particles and 3d effect and I didn't use any.

This engine is fabulous. Simply fabulous.

I had an error when trying it out, but I think that was because the files for the game were still in WinRAR at the time. When I extracted them to my own files, everything was OK, so the game seems perfectly fine; I was just trying to run the game wrong.

Only thing is, there was slowdown while I was running it, in the second and third rooms (didn't play past the third room at the time). Could it possibly be because there's a very large number of objects in those rooms? There wasn't slowdown in the first room, but that was a lot smaller.

Yes. And that's why certain rooms in ultra mario engine run slow, because there's lots of objects.

ON TOPIC: Very nice update. The first level is a bit too hard (lakitu is too much).
And lakitu shouldn't came back immediately after you defeat it. There's at least seven second delay.
Otherwise this is very awesome, Great job.

This is great indeed.
But you STILL have not solved the problem with the moving platforms:
Mario still only detects one pixel below him, and if he's too far on the left, he'll just fall off =)

Yeah probably, I had to find a place to put him lol. And that's actually an error from me when I converted it. I used the wrong code and wrong variable. It have been corrected, thanks

Yeah, maybe it would be better to make smaller rooms that those I made. It run at full speed for most of the rooms except the level8 room. It run at about 45 fps.

Lol, I have so much troubles with these unsolid platform. I don't know what codes to use. I'd need something that look for collision but on a line instead than on a single pixel. But still I'd have to make a better script someday. This one have too much glitchs, especially when used with the enemies.
